ALL Injen CAI Check-in please!

So my buddy and I go to install my CAI tonight. Expected it to be an hour or so. We went through the wheel well, much easier than taking off the bumper (took off the fog light cover as well). Everything went pretty well and smooth until we had to get that 11" rubber hose on.

We spent about 20-30 mins trying to get the one end onto the CAI tube. It got dark and started to rain, so we improvised with a little foil tape for now. We just couldn't get the damn thing on.

Did anyone else have trouble or did Injen F-UP my order with the wrong hose size? The hose is way too small to fit around the pipe. The hose itself could fit into the opening on the pipe.

Save me please!

Thanks!

I think I know exactly what you are talking about--is it the vacuum hose? That thing was a PITA. I think it's meant to be tight so that it's secure, but it took two people to get that thing on.

If it was chilly weather, you want to heat it up with a heat gun or blow dryer - makes it softer and more flexible. Also, put some liquid soap onto the metal end you are sliding it onto.

It's meant to be smaller so it will fit tight since it has no clamps. Cheap ass company should have just given us the same size hoses and we could reuse the clamps, or get new ones from Injen....oh well. You're doing nothing wrong, just have a little patience. The more frustrated you get, the harder it will actually become!

PITA?
PITA means "Pain in the ass"--sorry! It took a little bit of lubrication and a lot of elbow grease. Try the techniques that other people recommended above before you call the company.

Mine went on and came off real easy. No effort required. In fact it was so loose that I almost thought I'd need some clamps.

I remember it being a little hard...I just rocked it back and forth to get it on. It sounds like you're having more trouble than I did though.

You know, I was just thinking. This picture here:

http://www.rpi.edu/~leej19/intake/Intake%20017s.jpg

Shows a different setup that what I had. At the elbow where that long tube is, I was instruted to use the hose that was already there and a piece of the stock system, its the one in this pic, the small piece at the top right.

http://www.rpi.edu/~leej19/intake/IMG_0108s.jpg

I used this piece and the kit came with a silicon tube that had clamps. That silicon tube linked that small stock piece with the inlet on the intake. So, really different then the pic above.

I will take a picture tonight.

I think you're on to something here...I just can't remember exactly. It was so long ago. I did use a pre-existing hose for something and the 11 incher for something else....O2 sensor maybe. If you don't figure it our today I get home around 9PM EST tonight and I'll take a look. Damn I hate duty!!!! Recruiter didn't tell me about duty

That's exactly how mine was set up. Maybe they changed the kit?

Possibly. But do we have the old one, or do they? I just did mine last week. He did his the other night. The place I bought mine from is pretty much right down the road from Injen. So, I dunno

Mine was one of the very first out there. I bought it before it was even up on the webpage.

My CAI had no 11" hose. All hoses used were existing factory ones. Nothing hard about it either.

Dood, I would call whoever you got that kit from and tell them to send you out the right parts. Better yet, call Injen and tell them what you got. There is no way they would ship something like that out of the box.

DJEuclid, I am going to move this to the Performance forum, if you don't mind--I have a hunch that there are posters that frequent that forum more often than this one who might have a better idea as to why the hose isn't fitting. PM me if you have any questions.

I hav'nt installed my Injen yet but the pipe sticking out of the intake looks to thick for the hose I think?

I don't think the hose is the problem here?

domn, did you see the pic's I posted? I ordered that kit 2 weeks ago so it should be the latest setup that Injen is using. I think the pipe on the intake is fine, he just didnt get the right other parts.

My message was primarily intended to explain why I moved it (as part of my Moderator duties), and was not intended as a judgement call on anyone's answers/impressions. For all we know, you might be right joe.

For what it's worth, your setup is different than Dj's, but Dj's is common to the Injen units that we've seen (mine included). What I am saying is that there might be possible explanations--it isn't uncommon for the hose that attaches to the nipple on the primary intake to be tight.

Fromt the official instructions:

11" 15mm hose mated to 5/8" nipple.

When I put mine on, there's very little deformation.

The part that the tube is attaching to seems unusually large. The tube itself seems correct/normal.

Here's a picture of mine before while it was still in SRI mode. . .
