i just installed an Icebox. It is definately more responsive but I'm running an 06. Being that comptech is out of business, you'll find it very hard to find an icebox now.

Why bother with the AEM short-ram, when Fujita, Injen, and K&N Typhoon are all CAI's that can easily convert to short-ram if you want?

Also, the AEM short-ram is really pricey when compared to the others. Out of the available options, I'd rank them as follows:
1. Injen (I have one, and love it)
2. K&N Typhoon, Fujita (Because I can't speak to them personally)
3. Comptech Icebox. (because I prefer the sound of a CAI, even though the gains from the icebox are great as well).
distant 4th: AEM.

Thanks guys,
The reason why I'm considering AEM short ram is because I can get it for only $135. How about if I just drop in a K&N filter on the stock OEM box, any thoughts on that?

I think you can get a used Injen CAI for close to that price, quite often, in the Black Market section of these forums... take a peek!

why do people still consider short rams?
your better off stock with a k&n drop in then with a heatsoaked filter in your engine department!

The reason why I'm considering it is because Skunk2/SCC project TSX runs their setup with short ram.

lol...

I don't mean to talk shxt even tho I'm, but your reason is really lame.

The reason why people wants SRI because they are afraid of the 2 following reason:
1. Loss of torque if use CAI, which SRI will not have this problem.
2. Hydro-lock their enginer, because CAI MIGHT have a chance to suck water into engine base.

however, since the SRI setup is right beside the engine bay, therefore there's a great amount of heat will get suck-in by your SRI. Hot air = less power. Heat soak will slower your performance (especially in summer). While when it's rainning or snowing, as long as you don't floor (rev it high) it when you go over puddle of water, slush of snow etc, you will be fine.

Do what you WANT/NEED to, don't follow others cause the Skunk2/SCC setup is nothing particular.

AEM Performance Parts are pricey. But, when you’re looking for parts regardless the price or parts that have quality more than the value, then AEM would be the best… Icebox is currently rare. The supply is low but it’s good.

I would buy an AEM intake over any other brand from my past experience. I have had an AEM CAI in my Prelude, my Civic, my GTI, my CRX, and my 240sx...and I absolutely loved it. I am VERY dissapointed however that they do not have a CAI, much less the V2 available for the TSX yet. I have been waiting for the V2 for the TSX to puchase a CAI because the results seen in many of the cars I have helped install them in are just amazing. Plus, that intake would match my CGP pretty well!

Get a K&N CAI, I love mine. I cant speak for others except the knowledge that short ram gains are minimal

I agree with Hoonz, I will not buy a SRI, that is why I am waiting for AEM to create the CAI...Just my preference.

AEM will not make a CAI for the TSX because they have used the CAI as their prototype and show a loss of power compare their SRI intake. Search on Vtec.net and there is an article and dynoe on the AEM SRI ad showed a peak gain of 8hp. They also said that the intake temps is consistent to the stock intake when moving and the intake rose while at idle but as soon as you start moving it comes back down again. The good thing I like about the AEM is their dryflow filter and no needs to clean and oil them as with the Injen/fujita/K&N. I am going to get the AEM as well and put the Apexi maintenance free filter. This filter by far is one of the best filter in the market from experience.

Comptech Ice box..

I installed the Comptech ice in my friends 06 TSX Mt.i would sau it was one of the best investment. We haven't dyno the car yet.but you can def push the car harder in every gear.

Get your hands on the comptech Ice box before they are all sold out.

Guys, we're not talking about a huge difference here. Its all about preference.

My advice? Figure out what you want out of an intake, then gather info by searching, or posting exactly what you are after on this thread you already started.

Just so I don't sound like a total dick, I have the Comptech and I like it. Its performance is noticably improved from stock, but whether its 1 or 2 hp better than others is picking nits. i like to think that it has less hesitation when pressing the throttle than a CAI, since it has quicker access to air via the airbox.

As for sound quality and level, I prefer the Icebox's muted growl. I've had a CAI in my previous cars, and have grown tired of it. However, it definitely doesn't sound stock. Not bashing CAI's though, those really grab your attention and sound really awesome. I just don't want that every day.

i just installed a comptech icebox on my 06, and love the new sound (and improved responsiveness). i don't have any experience with SRI or CAI, so i can't comment on those, but the comptech icebox is a good, cheap mod.

also try acura of escondido. i know they had them in stock, and i almost bought one from them around the time comptech was closing, but i just opted to get it through excelerate (site vendor) since he's quality.

i really had a good experience with the AEM, didn't give me headache, whenever had a problems with the parts, though its too pricey but when it comes with the AEM performance parts, these really give me a leader in performance. and gives the edge in coming up with superior parts that enhances engine power and maximizes performance.

Are chances of hydro-locking alot higher if you lower you car with an Injen CAI?

Only if you decide to drive into deep puddles, flash floods and rivers.
