about getting custom navi..

Now I regret that I didnt get a NAVI..
Just curious..Is there any way that I can get a stock navigation system? If I can, How much would that be?
Otherwise, what kinds of custom navi system would you recommend?

For those who expects to get tsx, pay extra 3k for navi, (IF you travel alot...)

Happy holidays Peeps~!!

If I didn't have nav, I would buy a portable unit like this one:

http://www.garmin.com/products/sp2660/

Costco was selling the Garmin 2620 for about $1000.

The best thing is, you could use it in any car.

Also, the stock nav option is a little less than $2K, not $3K as you're indicating.

I would recommend nav even if you don't travel a lot. It has come in very handy in many occasions.

The reason you see people say that they don't wanna pay $3000 or $3500 for Navi is that dealers will take more off a non-navi car, so the difference between selling price (not sticker price) may end up being more than the cost of navi.

Are you sure about that? I got my 05 w/ nav for 27,700 including the protection pkg. That means the dealer would've been willing to sell me an 05 non-nav model for $24,200 to $24,700. I don't think I've ever seen people getting this type of a deal for a brand new non-nav model.

Well, remember each dealer is different. I'm coming from a TL perspective where folks have seen them GIVE AWAY non-navi models while keeping Navi prices at a premium, which would mean that you could buy a non-navi for over $2000 less than a navi model. On the TL for instance. Now you can get a navi for about 33,700, while non-navis are going for around 30. That's a difference of $3700, even though the only difference in sticker is the $2000 navi option. Non-navi models are less desirable so they command less of a premium.

Do you have any proof of that?

What a deal, huh?

The same exact car but non-navi is considerably cheaper at $31,200 ($33,950 OTD). Obviously the latter is the best deal, and saves me quite a bit monthly as well in loan interest charges, but am I going to regret not having the navigation system? I mean, it "is" a nice option and probably helps with future resale value, but is it really worth the extra money? Anyway, here in SoCal it seems the navi cars are selling pretty close to MSRP...best offer I got was only $500 off at $34,695.

Help me decide!!! :>) Jeff

So as you can see, there are a number of examples where non-navi cars were discounted more than navi, which resulted in a price difference greater than $2000 (the sticker price of navi.) Hopefully that answers your question.
These are just the examples I found in 10 minutes or so. Certainly there are more, and I didn't even check on A-TSX. I'd imagine the trend is the same on the TSX.

I am taking a guess here, but I would guess that demand for the Nav is higher with the TL then with the TSX. I think that because the TL is a more expensive car, and people in that range want all the features. I think the demand for the Nav in the TSX is not as great, and we should not see a markup on it.

I have another suggestion that might be worth checking out. Microsof Streets and Trips 2005 is now selling for roughly $125. It comes with a copy for pocket PC and a GPS receiver about the size of a dollar folded in half. You could run this on a PDA like an Ipaq (Priced from 250-500 or so). Connect the GPS receiver to your PDA via USB cable and you ahve real time Navi onyour PDA. Not only could you runthis in your car, but then put it in your pocket and take it with you. I have a friend thats doing this on his smart phone running the pocket software and using a bluetooh receiver for the GPS receiver. Very high speed.

So i was just told that you'll probably have to buy the bluetooth receiver fpr your PDA which would run you another 50-100 bucks maybe. You'll then have a wireless GPS receiver though so it's that much better.....

I'm also interested in picking up a stock tsx navigation system for a friend who didn't order it originally. In his case, he saved about $2,800 by skipping the navigation at the time of purchase.

Anyone have any ideas on where I could find one?

Average pricing from our database:
2004 MY
Navi: $27,350.45
Non-Navi: $25,483.91
Difference: $1866.54

2005 MY
Navi: $28,085.47
Non-Navi: $26,118.74
Difference: $1966.73

Pretty close to the $2000 that Acura charges.

The install isn't just plug and play; you have to create your own wiring harness. If you still want to do it, there's a how-to post in the A&V section. Most of the components can be found on Ebay.

I'm getting a Pioneer AVIC N2 a week from Tuesday. It's a DVD Navi system that goes in the dash, but it also plays DVD movies, MP3/WMA disks, CD's, and has an XM or Sirius radio receiver if you add it. A few other things too.

I wish I had bought a car with factory Navi, but the AVIC is pretty damn sweet.

http://www.avic-n1.com/ That's the N1 but the N2 has support for XM Navtraffic updates, which color the roadway red on your map in the event of a traffic jam, and the AVIC automatically diverts you around it.

That thing look like the next best thing to factory navi.

If you want to install Navi after the purchase. I would definately recommend installing an aftermarket system. Most of the aftermarket systems are designed to be basically plug and play. The factory nav system was only intended to be installed at the factory. As a result, the aftermarket systems will be easier to install. For the price of factory nav (approx $2000). You could probably get yourself a nice aftermarket Alpine system. Alpine makes really nice stuff. Plus, you'll get a nice headunit to play musis and stuff.

Check them out,

Hmm... the avic support the XM traffic? Well... i take back what i said about Alpine then. They're still nice... but get the AVIC if it supports traffic. That's like the best feature ever.

You have to pay for it though. I think it's $15/mo..

I heard that it's going to 13.99 per month and include both regular XM radio and the XM Navitraffic.

Thatz actually pretty good, but keep in mind that if you don't live in a big city the Nav traffic data will probably not be quite as accurate and/or current.

The latest models are the 320 and 330:

http://www.garmin.com/products/sp330/

They have a slighly larger screen, stick to the windshield right were you can see them easily, have 16 bit color, intergrated speakers, and a higher screen resolution. The 320 has an OTD price of under $600.00 and should be available in April or May. But, the 320 and 330 doesn't have all the features of the 1610, 1620, 2610, 2620. Some features were dropped (number of waypoints, for example).

That should be "number of routes" rather than "number of waypoints".

It's pretty cool, but the real strength over the Alpine is that it has a touch screen that works with the GPS unit. The Alpine doesn't. To use the monitor with the GPS unit you need to use the handheld remote. To hell with that.
