7-speed SS AT Transmission

Is the 7-speed SS Auto Transmission available on some JDM Hondas already?

Can we swap that 7AT tranny into our TSX?
Does it fit? Does it work?

i know BMW has a 7 speed Paddle shift in research for the M6...but i havent heard of a honda app...I dont feel however that this would be a positive mod for our cars, we have no where near enough horsepower to run something like that, and would probibly be less agressive gearing, also would prob require less revs in each gear... TSX is only quick because of its high revving ability

Nope no link... Ive never heard of a Honda application, esp one available to the general public, even though it has no bennifit to our car, still wouldnt mind seeing how it works, Honda is very good at making a fun MT Transmission, and our SS aint half bad either, So this would probibly be a very interesting car to drive

Here's a great read on DSG......

DSG Tech

Honda is said to working on an SMG style box, which is a manual box with computer controlled clutch and shifter, but I don't beleive it is on the road yet.......

While I agree I haven't heard of a Honda application, I disagree on it not being a good match for the TSX. The 7 speed transmission would mean the gear ratios are spaced closer together, meaning the gear is actually more aggressive. And if it is a manual gearbox based transmission, there is no reason it couldn't rev to the current 7200 rpm redline. I think this gearbox would be a perfect match for the TSX's high revving engine and would probably improve acceleration times.

But one step at a time. Honda/Acura needs a 6 speed auto first before they start doing 7 speed trannies.

Im just thinking out loud here, but Could the 2.4 L engine of the TSX, handle that kinda transmission, 7 Gears revving up to 7200 rpms on each of them... Seems like more then enough to kill ur engine, BMW's having difficulty rigging the gears on a Hopped up V8, The 5AT's gearing is attcually pritty nice for the car too, First i feel is alittle short, but besides that its not bad at all, 100 mph in 3rd gear im not complaining... We should do more power based modifications, before we start fooling around w/ the Transmissions in a fashon like that

I'm not following...

By inserting another gear, it effectively shortens the ratios on the first 6 gears. This has the same effect as dropping the gear ratios on a 6 speed car, except you're inserting another gear to compensate for it. The shorter gearing would also help in the acceleration times. Shorter gearing on low torque cars is a good way to effectively improve the torque being transferred to the wheels.

MB has their 7 speed GTronic AT trickling down to the E350 and other cars using the new 3.5L V6 drivetrain this year so a 7 speed AT will not be that rare anymore. There are some rare ATs in JDM world but I don't think any of those will get exported.
The problem is that once you get to about 6 gears you quicly approach the law of diminishing returns.

Ooh...nifty...

And is this an actual 7-speed tranny or a CVT with a sport shift mode with seven distinct set gear ratios?

Just wondering if there's any transmission mechanic in here? Is it easy to swap this transmission?
cos still honda to honda, 5AT auto 7AT CVT....... I think

anyway, the 7AT CVT will boost two things.
1. It's boosts the fuel consumption, better mileage than tiptronic.
2. It's boosts the acceleration, even faster manual transmission.

Data concept history from A4's CVT.

CVT's are very picky with the amount of power you can apply to them. It's hard to build them strong so you generally see them on low HP applications.

I think you meant to say fuel economy. And the transmission would not be a direct swap since you'd need some sort of module to trick the TSX ECU into thinking the 5AT was still there and run the new programming of the CVT. Would be easier just to see if they begin to apply this technology in place of their regular AT trannies.

Perfect for the TSX. And usually it's not HP that's the limiting factor, but rather the torque.

There's no reason why a CVT couldn't work with a TSX but retrofitting one wouldn't be easy. There's a major difference in computer controllers.

Actually since there's no predefined ratios with a CVT there's no reason why they couldn't make it an 8, 9 or 30 "gear" transmission.

I've never driven a CVT before (aside from a golf cart) but I'd be curious to see what it's like.

Exactly. The whole thing depends on software. Or you could keep it at 7 speeds but just pick the gear ratios with software.

It's not an AT, it's a CVT with a manual mode where you can pick between 6 shift points.

The Honda UK site gives the following perfomance numbers for 0-100kph

Acceleration 0-62 mph (secs) 13.7 (1.2l 5sp) 13.3 (1.4l 5 sp) / 14.5 (CVT)

I'd venture to guess that when the Fit/Jazz makes it to the US the numbers will be similar. Can't wait for someone to take one to the track.
