I wonder what kind of gains we will see from a 4-1 layout. all other aftermarket headers for our car that I know of are 4-2-1.

I'm guessing this will cost about $1000 in the US. Is this a JDM header? Does that mean we need a JDM cat to fit?

I wouldn't mind being one of the first to jump the gun on this header

85 000 Japanese yen = 802.06 U.S. dollars

It's definitely going to cost about that much. Plus you have import fees.

Browsing though the US 5zigen site and I found this one instead of the one above. Which one is better?

Damn, it is very expensive!!! Thanks to visuelz! I am sure that 4-2-1 header might be cost more $$$$ than 4-1.

It may simply bolt up to the stock a-pipe and using the existing heatshield.

If you check, it is meant for the CL7 which has the K20 motor I think

I think Johnny is right. It looks like this piece replaces only half of what the other aftermarket headers replace. You can reuse the factory heatshield though, which is nice. I wonder what type of difference this will make from a power standpoint.

I talked to 5zigenusa and it is a 2 pc header made specific for our K24A2 engine and to the poser above 5zigen also have a race version header made for the Cl7 that is what your looking at on their website but the one we are discussing in this post is made for the CL9.

i called the US office.

apparently it'll be coming in about a week. b/c it's a JDM part, they still have to test fit it with the TSX to make sure it fits.

the guy on the phone, however, said this is a 1 piece design strictly for race application, and the msrp is roughly $850.

so there are some inconsistencies with info regarding if it's a 1- or 2-piece.

If this is a one piece application strictly for race application then would it pass emissions or is it strictly for the track? anyone have any insight from what i understand this is relatively new to the TSX

this is the response i got from 5zigen via email about the header--

It is 1-piece stainless steel header.

Bolt-on to stock catalytic converter. It is JASMA certified street legal header in Japan.

Dyno data has not been opened to the public.

It is usually 3 ~ 5 ps gain for N/A car with stock catalytic converter.

Benefit of the street legal header is the improvement of the acceleration response and handling by the lighter weight than the getting power.

Unfortunately, we haven’t test fitment with USDM Acura TSX yet.

Hoping JDM header fits to TSX here.

3-5 ps is same as hp right? So just 3-5 hp? Don't the comptech and some others give us around 10 extra hp?

if i'm looking at the right wikipedia definition for PS, yes, the ratio is nearly 1:1.

the comptech header on a dyno will add as much as 10HP according to a test by TOV: Comptech Header Review @ TOV

they did the same test on the DC header and it added as much as 8.5HP.

$850 is pretty steep for just a 3-5HP gain for the 5zigen. here's hoping that someone will have a dyno for this header at some point.

from wikipedia:

Metric horsepower
Metric horsepower began in Germany in the 19th century and became popular across Europe and Asia. The various units used to indicate this definition ("PS", "CV", "pk", and "ch") all translate to "horse power" in English, so it is common to see these values referred to as "horsepower" or "hp" in the press releases or media coverage of the German, French, Italian, and Japanese automobile companies. British manufacturers often intermix metric horsepower and mechanical horsepower depending on the origin of the engine in question.

Metric horsepower, as a rule, is defined as 0.73549875 kW, or roughly 98.6% of mechanical horsepower. This was a minor issue in the days when measurement systems varied widely and engines produced less power, but has become a major sticking point today. Exotic cars from Europe like the McLaren F1 and Bugatti Veyron are often quoted using the wrong definition, and their power output is sometimes even converted twice because of confusion over whether the original "horsepower" number was metric or mechanical.[citation needed]

[edit] PS
This unit (German: Pferdestärke = horse strength) is no longer a statutory unit, but is still commonly used in Europe, South America and Japan, especially by the automotive and motorcycle industry. It was adopted throughout continental Europe with designations equivalent to the English "horsepower", but mathematically different from the British unit. It is defined by the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB)[2] in Braunschweig as exactly:

1 PS = 75 kilopond·metre/second ~= 735.5 newton·m/s ~= 735.5 W ~= 0.7355 kW ~= 0.98632 hp (SAE)
The PS was adopted by the Deutsches Institut für Normung (DIN) and then by the automotive industry throughout most of Europe, under varying names. In 1992, the PS was rendered obsolete by EEC directives, when it was replaced by the kilowatt as the official power measuring unit. It remained in use for commercial and advertising purposes, as customers were not familiar with the use of kilowatts for engines.[citation needed]

the press release says it's 3.5 kg.

so compare that vs. the stock header weight which TOV put at around 21 lbs (comptech is 11 lbs, and the weight savings vs. stock is at 10.3). converting the 3.5 kg to lbs makes it 7.7lb. so i guess it's a lot lighter.

If that's the correct picture, then this "one-piece" header has to bolt up to the oem A-pipe. This means the overall weight is not that light anymore.

Has anyone found more information yet? It is interesting that the stock A pipe of TSX is much larger in diameter when compared to the DC Sports or even the Comptech. So it would be interesting to see how it performs when you replace the puny stock OEM primaries.
