2006 specific CAIs

I'm ready to buy an Injen CAI for my new baby, but am stumbling before I can get a clear answer to this: Is there a different one for the 2006 with the wider throttle body? I've seen this question answered yes and no on different forums, so please someone set me straight.

A cheap place to buy one would be nice too

If you can take a measurement of your TB ID & OD, I can tell you if the current available CAIs will fit or not.

If I recall correctly, its 64mm vs. 60mm in the older ones

From Here...

Tuned Intake

The TSX uses a single-stage intake manifold that for 2006 has been retuned to increase intake air flow from 95 liters per second to 110 liters per second and help add an additional five horsepower to the TSX's already powerful engine. Enhancements to the intake system for 2006 include:

* Intake radius increased from 70mm to 80mm
* Intake manifold bore enlarged from 60mm to 64mm
* Throttle body diameter increased from 60mm to 64mm

Well, the inside diameter of the TB has increased, but what about the outside diameter? If the OD is the same, then it should work.

Not only is the size of the TB something to consider, but does the 06 now have an MAF sensor?

My wife's 06 Accord does, which is a new thing for this year. So, it might be an accross the board change?

No MAF sensor. It still uses MAP sensor in the intake manifold.

Since Acura already made changes to the intake to increase the HP, is it worth getting an intake for the '06 model? Won't the gain be significantly less than an intake for '04/'05? Excuse my noobness...

Well, I went ahead and ordered one. Assuming it gets here next week I'll do the install the following weekend. I'll be sure to take pics and try to note anything that might be '06 specific. I find it hard to believe I'm the first one putting one on an '06, so if another member has one already please chime up, I'd like to confirm that it really will fit!

...

I'm having slight second thoughts. My car has only 400 miles on it, is my dealer going to have a cow when I bring it in for the first 5000 mile pit stop and sees I've changed out the intake and added some extra metal? ( I ordered a Neuspeed strut bar and Progress RSB as well )

What are the chances of getting into a pissing match with the dealer about warranty issues? I know my warranty isn't voided by doing these things, but when the dealer says that a hypothetical new rattle is because of the modifications I've made, do I have any recourse?

^ please keep us updated on the fit/performance gain. I also just got an '06 and am interested in doing this mod.

As far as warranty being voided, I don't think that will affect you. Honda/Acura cars are heavily modded. Worst comes to worst, you could always just take the mods off before taking it in.

He's got to prove that its the mods that are causing the rattling. I doubt the progress rsb will as it doesn't touch the exhaust (bent in the right places) however the strutbar may.

My suggestion is to take any aftermarket parts you buy to the dealer and have them install 'em. That way if something happens with the work you're dealing with only 1 person rather than 2. It may cost more but think of it as a one time fee for peace of mind.

Interesting idea about taking it to the dealer for the work. I gotta imagine that'd cost a ton though, and seeing as I can do these myself I don't plan to. I was more thinking of doing it in the parking lot of the local performance shop that has a dyno so i can do before and after runs on my 2006.

For the things you mentioned, install them yourself. If it rattles, at least you can go and fix them right away rather than having to wait hours to days for the tech to find a rattle.

A strut bar and intake will probably not void your warranty - they have to prove your warranty issue was caused by the parts.

I had an email conversation with my distributor yesterday. There was a mix up but he went out of his way to take care of it, so now I'm expecting delivery Thursday or Friday, express shipping

To be honest I'm really nervous about the fitment. I'll be sure to measure first to check throttle body outer diameter. I'm a serious noob to this and I'm going to DIY so it makes me nervous that no one seems to have put one of these on a 2006 yet. If someone has, please tell me so!!!

Also, I had no idea a dyno run cost so much.. $40 for a set here. I guess I need to spend $80 to objectively see the difference. Argh, now I'm debating it. Is it unethical to ask for some paypal donations to offset the cost of the dyno-ing? It would certainly help PM me if you want to be my hero a few bucks would help! And full credit will go to you.

Other than that.. I plan on installing this weekend. I'll take pics.

Hey,

I got my intake and bought car stands, but 6" of snow and the lack of a garage got in the way. Good news is I'm more confident about the fitment now thanks to measurements from member BulldogHockey. According to him, a (rough) measurement of the 2006 TB OD is 72.5 mm and my cheap school ruler measurement of the fitting end of the intake was 73mm. I think we can call that a match.

and BulldogHockey, I'll still get you the piping ID measurement when I actually start peeling things apart. If the snow melts enough and the temperature gets to the point where I can stand being outside again I'll fit the intake some night this week, otherwise prolly next weekend.

Yup, good luck. You'll have to let us know how it sounds and performs. I think you are the first one to Injen your '06...

It doesn't appear that there is any problem with using the regular Icebox (on mine) or Injen (as Reach measured) for the '06.

Nope, I just got the 04 one and am hoping for the best. The weather here is unseasonably warm today after (high of 56) after a weekend of 20s and snow, so with the snow gone soon and if this holds out for a few days it'll be done this weekend. Damn I wish I had a garage.

In other news, car is going in for a checkup tomorrow. I have some odd exhaust like smell getting into the cabin when I go to high revs. And I do like my SS, so it happens a bit. Hopefully they just tighten some bolts or replace a filter and its solved. Then I'd definitly get to the intake this weekend.

Just curious... why the K&N? Prefer the 1 piece design? Cost?
I managed to get my Injen for 195 shipped. How much are you getting the K&N for?

The two intakes are almost identical. They are both a 2 piece design. It usually just comes down to brand/color preference or cost. I haven't heard anyone report problems with either intake.

read up on both the injen and the K&N. from user experience, the typhoon is a little quiter and uses all the stock mounts and has some sturdier connectors. Its all personal opinion and I've only heard positive feedback on it, so i took the plunge on the typhoon

Injen CAI IS COMPATIBLE with 2006 TSX.

I completed this mod tonight. The 04/05 Injen CAI officially is compatible with 2006s. You may all go out and get one now, and thank me later.

Follow the directions exactly as explained in the great picture thread here where you go through the wheel well. I did this method and had no problems. THE ONLY DIFFERENCE: I had to remove 2 bolts in addition to the 3 clips from underneath the bumper to move the wheel well lining. Other than that minor annoyance, the fitment is just as before.

I don't want to comment too much about the improvements yet, not till I see the numbers on it tomorrow. I'll just say the butt dyno is HUGE on this. Same on the ears. This thing is *mean*.

CG and I will have stock vs. CAI dyno results tomorrow, I'll likely create a new thread for this.

That's good to hear. I have a customer with an 06 who wanted an Injen CAI but I wasn't sure if it would fit but now I know. Thanks.

No, Reach was talking about the difference between his homemade "cotton-stuffed" air filter and the Injen CAI

Nope. Dynos showed only a small power increase.

Did you have to muscle the rubber elbow onto the throttle body? When installing my Injen I spent a good half an hour trying to get it on. Is it the same way for an 04/05 install? I have an 06 as well by the way.

So the overall verdict on this thread was??? I am looking to get the most max power w/o bolting on boost. I have been the boost route before and to be honest our high compression motors just don't like it very much. My point....... should I just stick with the stock intake and go for the reflash or both? I need a little sleeper action going on.

Both. The gains are definitly there with the CAI, so long as you're fine with losing a little bit of torque in the low end, roughly 2600-3200 rpm.

Hondata is (I hear...) best, but CAI is your next cheapest bolt on with horespower bang-for-the-buck.
