06 cat vs RT high flow

How much of an improvement is the RT over the stocker? Any code issues with the RT? Thanks.

I have the RT cat on my 06 and no CEL yet and I'm not running a defouler on the o2 sensor. As for performance I suppose there was a bit of an improvement, but nothing too over the top without a dyno to prove it. From other dynos on here it looks like it should yeild 9hp or so but I think those dynos were on 04 - 05's. I haven't dyno'd my car so I can't give you any exact numbers on an 06

The 04-05 cat I believe is 900 cell, the 06 600 cell and the RT cat 300 cell. A defouler is basically an extension to space the oxygen sensor further away from the exhaust stream so that it doesn't throw a CEL.

I think the 06 cat is 400cell so the RT is hardly worth it for the 06 owners.

Correction:

04-05 Cat = 900 cell
06 Cat = 400 cell
RT Cat = 200 cell

I've said this several times, but I feel that adding the RT Cat on my 06 6MT yielded as many gains as my I/H/E combined. Additionally, I put on my I/H/E combo all at once while the RT Cat was installed by itself a month later, so I had a good idea of how the car was performing before installing the cat.

That said, I really don't like the sonic changes it made to my exhaust setup. It sounds exponentially raspier and has a metallic "tinny" sound on WOT. Still, I'm willing to put up with the sound in exchange for the performance gains .

^^I would imagine that the effect is synergistic (sp?). The effect of the RT cat worked in conjunction with I/H/E to produce a far greater gain than if the cat was changed with all other parts stock.

Just in case anyone wants install the RT Cat by itself.....start with a good header and work your way down the exhaust tract. Just my $.02.

The RT High-flow cat is 200cell, which is 50% better than the 06cat.

No doubt there was a synergistic effect involved when I added the RT Cat. However, in contrast, there wouldn't have been much of an effect if I hadn't added the I/H/E combo to begin with.

To clarify, my response to the OP's question is an unequivocal so long as you upgrade the surrounding exhaust parts to go with it (but the same can be said about the 04/05s).

EDIT: I can see the OP already took our advice .

Yes indeed. Should have the exhaust ready for the SC install this winter. I'm hoping more info around fuel and tuning will be ironed out shortly. I feel like I'm back on Ls1 cars nine years ago.

Cool. I too just wanted to make sure the OP or anyone else didn't buy just the cat and call it a day.

my 05 being a 900 cell cat when i got a magnaflow highflow cat which is probably 400 or 300 cell.

I felt the difference.

will a test pipe increase better performance than the RT cat?

Why don't you search?

JTso has posted a dyno before, the Test-pipe did only yield an extra 1whp over the RT Cat. Given the smell, noise, illegal, and evironmental damage, I don't think it worth to get a test-pipe.
