I won't say we're getting screwed, but Hondata has other priorities. There either seems to be a problem they can't get past or can't spare the time to overcome programmatic issues...heck I dunno. But Doug's best advice to us is buy an 04 ECU and get that reflashed. Reading between the lines, there won't be an reflash for our specific ECU. Logically, I assume the Comptech Supercharger isn't in our future as well.

That's why I scrapped my '05 and went with something else.

I dunno. The Civic Si is here now, and unlike the football helmet EP3 it is projected to sell extremely well. That's a whole other K series ECU that needs cracking, and a hell of a market interest for it. The good news is that any research is probably good research (for us) in the sense that these engines are only a few years old and with the new VIN encoding and other regulatory nonsense, cracking the ECU completely must be a six headed bitch.

In any case, whether or not the 5AT gets a reflash will not be predicated upon how many times we pester Hondata asking when it is coming out.

i don't understand what honda could've changed between the 04 and 05 ecu that prevents hondata from being able to reflash the 05, and yet the 06 was so easy.. i don't get it

The 04 and 05 ECUs are identical excepting that the 05 and up store the VIN in the EPROM so that smog stations can tell if the engine has been swapped. This was posted here by Hondata.

I also have heard that on some vehicles the VIN is also part of a programming checksum feature so that if ECU programming is altered, so will be the VIN, so the checksum fails and the car then fails inspection. I'm not sure if Honda does this though.

Point being, the ECU is an extremely complex beast and speaking as an engineer my hat is off to anybody who can successfully crack it.

Yeah, the VIN is what I have read is causing the hold up. Curious though why this isn't the case with the 05 MT as well as the 06's.
