9000 km..... my machanic friends says even wait until 10K before doing your first oil change is still ok because the engine oil in a brand new honda has a special kind of substance inside that is for engine polishing..... but I still can't wait to do the first oil change.... : p

If you just follow the maintenance minder, you'll be fine (it will probably tell you to change it around 5k miles). Some of us are more anal about our cars, and change it at 1000.

You quoted someone saying that Honda's recommendation is better than a non-Honda mechanic's recommendation...are you trying to say that Honda mechanics recommend an oil change sooner than 3k to 5k miles? If so, your local dealership might be trying to use it to make more money.

The TSX's maintenance minder supposedly does a number of things to determine how much oil life your TSX has. I'm sure that if Honda felt it was important, they could have programmed the maintenance minder to recommend an oil change sooner (like 1k miles). It would be a grave programming error on their part if they had managed to let it slip.

With my education in engineering, I like to think that if they designed something, then they really ought to know what's best for that design. It's like making paper airplanes. You can modify it so that it does loop-the-loop's, rolls, etc. Not many people will know why you designed certain mods unless they studied the design well and did a few practice runs.

My Acura dealer called to mind me that it has been 6 months.
I told him the oil life is at 30%, I only have 4k mileage since I have been carpooling.
He then told me to bring it in when the reminder comes on.

General rule on the 06s is that you should get it done when the maintenance minder tells you to or once a year (you should always have your oil changed once a year even if you don't drive as the oil just sitting can still break down due to exposure to moisture and air).

My first oil change came at 3758 miles, largely due to the mostly city driving that I end up doing. On my 04, I got my first oil change done just after the 5000 mile mark.

Every dealer is different.. every one has their opinion... this is my fourth new car... I follow the 5k first oil since I had a lot of stop and go traffic.. 10k will probably be fine if I drive a lot of highway during the first oil change... I thought a lot about that metal particle in engine during the first 1-2k.. but u know, thats what filters are for.. if it can't filter that stuff out.. then it's honda's problem.. isn't that the oils job.. bring the metal particles to the filter, let the filter take it out... I would even just change the filter after 1k before the first oil change..

1 st car - regular dino oil @ 3k crap.. no engine problem
2 nd car - 3k first oil change and 20k mobil 1 - no engine problems
3 rd car - 2k first oil change and 15k mobil 1 - no engine problems
4 th car - tsx - 5k first oil change and mobil 1 after 15k.. at 30k now, no problem so far..

1/2 of the car are from honda.. the first is yamaha.., one vw golf

4200 miles because my maitenace reminder was at 15% oil life. Changed with Royal Purple and so much smoother with it over the stock oil.

You will be wasting money if you're doing oil changes (after the first one) every 3000 miles. It is a money-making scheme from dealers/garages and was based on old, less technologically advanced oil of the 60's and 70's. Nowadays, in Europe (higher speed driving and harsher conditions for engine oil than North America), they're doing 20,000km and even 20,000 MILE oil changes as factory-recommended intervals, for many, many cars.

The new oils of today are so much more advanced and resistant to breakdown than the older oils, and this especially comes to fruition when comparing todays synthetics vs. yesterday's dino oil, that anything less than 5-6,000 mile intervals is a complete waste of money and good (scarce) oil.

If this is a "Honda Machanic" who I dunno of..... I will feel the same like you.... Coz I have a prob w/ those sucker about my tranny..... My quote is from my friend who work in Honda.... not from Acura..... As well all know those frigging machanics from Acura SUCKS!

About my recommandation.... I am suggesting to get it done around 8k-9k.

Doesn't matter whether it is from Honda Machanic or what so ever.... the whole point is don't chanage the oil too soon.... let those new oil runs for at least 8K - 9K km bemore replacing new oil is my opinion. Because those stork one in the new car has some sore of substance used to polish the cylinders.

You shouldn't be hoping for "polished cylinders". You need some crosshatch pattern on the cylinder walls in order to hold some oil and lube the upper areas of the cylinders.

Without it you might as well have glazed cylinder walls, and nobody wants that.

I just had mine '05 in for the first oil change at 4,923 about a week ago. I bought it back in early October and the paperwork that I got when I finished at the dealership has me all confused

It says "Customer requests 3750 mile service (LOF) Scheduled maintenance due to time or mileage 3750 mile service performed."

And up in the mileage area of the paperwork it clearly states 4923 miles. And the little sticker they put in for the next change says 7923. So that is in 3000 miles....

I am new to this forum...just signed up today and this is ALL I have done today is read this thing and boy has it been helpful. I just don't understand the dealership though. And I got the ownerlink email back in Feb reminding me about my first service at 5,000 miles....so I thought I didn't have to do it till then. Now I don't know

actually i will follow the computer after this oil change. the reason i change it @2927 is because like what other member here said, those engin particle and stuff will build up, so i just wanna clear those stuff and make the engin run smoother.

Honda Australia service manual says 600 miles. Failing to carry out the first service in around that time can result in a voided warranty (paraphrased from the service booklet).

1st at 1000 miles, every 3-5K thereafter. Using Mobil 1 now, switched at around 12K.
