You dont realize what you have until its gone...

Or in my case, almost gone.

So, here is the story. I used to have a 2000 Civic SI which was my first new car and I LOVED that thing so much. She was my baby. Anyway, the say day came when she was stolen and stripped to the bone.

I got some good cash from my insurance and wound up getting a TSX.I had a very strange relationship with my TSX. I loved it and though it was a great car, but for some reason, I never pampered her the way I did with the TSX. I drive a lot. a whole lot. I got her in August of 2003 and I have almost 134k miles on it as of now.

Anyway, I hardly ever changed the oil and when the oil was low, I would keep riding with the oil light on for a couple days and there were many times I would use regular gasoline instead of the premium required by Acura (Honda). Car washes have been very few and I had so much garbage laying around, especially in the trunk.

I know what I was doing was wrong, I was a real moron.

So, lately I have been getting the new car itch because Ill be done paying for the TSX in September and I always love new things so I was so anxious to get rid of the TSX.

Well, last weekend, my car died. I am from NJ and was in Brooklyn NY and had to get it towed all the way back home. she has been at the shop all week and $1,425 dollars later and a week to think about how my neglect has caused so much pain to my TSX as well as my bank account, I realized how wrong I have been.

So, here I am again in this forum.

I want to get back up to speed with this car and take great care of her again and Im not thinking of new cars anymore.

So, I decided to start treating her. Im going to get a Cold air intake for Christmas, Im also going to buy a comptech short shifter adapter.

This week Im going to flush out the radiator which I have never done too and a full detail is in the near future.

So, thats my story. I now realize again what a great car this is and how proud I am to own one!!

That surprised me also, but I guess the car does have 134k AND was neglected for some time .

At least this incident has reminded the OP to take care of his car.

wait you have 134K miles on the TSX now? where do you drive?

i treat my car good. i have only put 89 in her once.

why didn't you just go to an Acura or even Honda dealer for that service? i would've if i were you even if it did cost a bit more.

the car i abused cause i was still only 20-23 yrs old at the time was the 1999 Accord, I revved that car all the time to the redline and didn't really care where it was parked so that is why it had a lot of dings/dents on it. maybe that was why when i traded it in with 94K on it, it needed a new timing belt, catalytic converter, and the heater didn't work well anymore.

I would never go to Acura because its way too much. they wanted $150 just to check my battery! Never ever ever. There is a reason they call them the "stealership".

But in all honesty, if I wasnt still paying for my car, maybe I would be more open to going there. I am over extended with bills and my car payment is quite high.

But for your other question, I work 30 miles from home, I also go to school p/t at night which is another 20 miles, then i have to go home. weekends i go at least 50 miles into Brooklyn ny each way. I also love road trips.

So it was just a bad timing chain?

When I saw that you ran with low oil pressure, I was thinking oil sludge or possibly seizing the engine.
Be very happy neither of those two happened.

There should be a small oil squirter for the timing chain as well. Since he ran his oil level low enough to get an oil pressure warning light, I am guessing there wasn't enough oil to even lube the chain.

I just realized that filling with premium only costs about $3 more than with regular for full tank.
(20cents more per gallon, x 17 gallons= 3.4 dollars)

you really don't realize what you have till its gone.

during the week of July 15th, I was going down a road with a straight right angle'd left turn going up hill. While I was driving, there was a hill which I thought was still going to go straight when I passed it. Boy, was I wrong. I hit the brakes hard and turned my wheel which led to a loud screech and the wheels skid all the way into a ditch and between two trees with about a foot of clearance on each side. My windshield cracked, my front fenders, bumper, and hood crumpled and the underside of my engine bay got shot upwards and the radiator was smashed into the manifold and the engine pushed out of my hood. It was really bad. Although the insurance company didn't want to total it, it was decided that they were going to fix it. Turns out the damages was over 20k.

At the time I had about 45,000 miles on it, 2005.

Im finally getting it back this coming week. Been waiting so long. When I do get it back, I'm gonna make it feel like it was new again...

Hopefully. =/

I don't take care of my car near as well as a lot of people here, but I always make sure I get my oil changed every 5k miles (I'd never let the oil light come on), take the car in for its 10k scheduled maintenances, and keep it clean.
