XM + iPod
XM + iPod
I'm picking up my new Milano Red 04 TSX w/Nav & wood steering wheel, in two weeks (I ordered it a long time back -- November). I'm so excited! I feel like a little kid.
I'm having it sent right to a local car audio shop (Rich's Car Tunes), to have the following components installed:
* Wireless Bluetooth
* XM Radio
* iPod Jacks
BTW, you might be wondering (as I was), how XM Radio and the iPod play together, when there's only one Auxiliary jack. From what they tell me (and I have no reason to doubt this), the only way this can be set up is to route the iPod *through* the XM Radio, because it, too, has an input port. So the iPod is effectively an input device mounted to another input device.
Everyone who hears that I'm getting this done says, "Er, why didn't you get the TL?" First off, getting this work done is only running me $2700 (and that includes the price of the iPod and Bluetooth phones themselves!) Second, I *wish* I had liked the TL, but it just seemed like a grownup's car. (Granted, I'm 31, so you'd think I'd feel like a grownup by now, but so far...nada.)
I wish I could say that I'm writing with a question, but I've been reading this site now for the past six months, and now that my car is almost here, I just wanted to chime in. (Plus, I hadn't seen anything on this site about how to integrate an iPod w/XM, so I thought that was worth mentioning.)

are they going to install the ipod (professionaly mount)? If so I would love to see pics of a “pro” ipod install. Also pics of the bluetooth and what hardware they used. Congrats on the TSX, ipod and bluetooth!

Dayum, thats a long wait.
No, I intentionally asked for it to be delivered in the Spring -- it seemed like it would be a shame to get the car and have it suffer through -20F temperatures, and get ten feet of snow dumped on it, right from the getgo.
At the time, I wondered whether I was being silly. In retrospect (after living through this hellish winter), I'm glad I held off. Plus, I think I'll enjoy it more, now that I've had to wait for it!

With regards to the iPod mount, I opted for a simple, out-of-sight approach. Basically, they're going to hide all of the wiring, so that just the iPod connector wire ends up in the center console. That way, I can pull it out while I'm using it, and put it away while it's playing, or when I'm not using it.
I figured that having an actual stand for it would clutter the dash, plus might attract thieves.
The satellite radio, too, for that matter, is hidden. Curiously, they don't install the satellite radio in the mp3/casette slot -- they install it below that, next to the red NOT AN ASHTRAY thing. So it's underneath a close-able panel.
I would have thought this was crazy, if the guy hadn't pointed out that they use the exact XM unit that Acura installs (a three-inch-wide Alpine), and they install it in the same place.
The fact that Satellite radio is an Acura-installed option has to go down as one of Acura's most well-kept secrets. Acura of Boston told me that they've only installed one, and it was a pain. I only knew about it because it's listed in the TSX Accessories brochure -- and even then, at first the salesperson told me I was mistaken and was probably reading a TL brochure!)
