Wrote off 2004 Acura TSX

Hey guys, been a while since ive been in the community due to being away from school, and getting tired of waiting for forced induction options.

I hit a deer a month ago outside of Cranbrook, BC. I had oncoming traffic to the left, then noticed 2 miniature does on the right hand shoulder. I slammed on my breaks till I was going about 15-20 km/h, no room or reason to swerve. The little doe lept into my lane at the last second, i watched it like slow-mo as its body landed on my acura grill, then BOOM shot off like a baseball into oncoming traffic. A 4x4 drove over it with both sets of wheels, turning it to pulp. I pull over into the shoulder and do the insurance/tow thing.

End up spending a night in Cranbrook cuz rental places are closed. get home next day. BC's rental policy is that you have to return the rental to the province, i could not just arrive in calgary and drop it off.

so out of my way, i drive BACK to cranbrook to drop off a rental, which would leave me stranded. so I arrange a car drop off from my parents, who are in creston, BC. I meet them in Cranbrook, they leave me a 06' convertible vette with a load of shit to take back to calgary alone.

So i drive all the way home from cranbrook pretty calmly. already down from all the events. get to 22 north (intersects 22x), 15 mins from home and get stuck in a rain behind a truck who is making a huge wake and i cant see shit. I stay back for a while, then get to a hill where i can see over his wake and punch it past him. slow back down to 115km/h. 2 minutes later, sirens in my mirror. pull over, give info, didnt try to bargain or sweettalk the guy cuz it was raining hard and i figured he'd appreciate getting out of the rain. He comes back with a ticket for 163km/hr in 100 zone. says 'have fun in court'. I'll pass on listening to any flaming about speeding, i wanted to pass and i did it quickly and was comfortable with it.

I am currently using a traffic service to help me, I'm assuming the worst and will deal with a license suspension at some point.

It's been a month now, and I figured my car should be fixed, but I get a call saying that it has been written off. I would have estimated 2-3grand in parts were damaged, none to frame. Never considered once that it would be bad enough to writeoff. It is now sitting in a salvage yard with some personal belongings and my ronjon rims on it. I am going out soon to clean it out.

I am wondering if I would be smarter to claim my rims, get their adjusted payout. or go swap them out for my acura rims with winter rubber on them. Whichever way I go I will have an extra set of rims. Think I can make more for them through insurance, or through sales?

Pictures up asap.

That sucks that they wrote it off. Was it still driveable after the hit? If so, I'd think about taking it to another yard for another estimate. Or possibly calling the insurance company to ask them why they're writing it off. A low speed collision shouldn't cause enough damage to total it.

And as crappy as the ticket is, I'm not going to say anything about it. I got lit up on my way to work one night for passing a beetle that had been doing 15 under. He didn't pull me over, but he let me know he was there in his unmarked SUV.

Sorry to hear that.

I'd swap the wheels and sell the Ron Jon's privately.

Must have been typing while you were posting pictures. That doesn't look bad enough to total it out. I'd definitely get a second estimate and talk to the insurance company.

There's no way that's totalled. I was hit this spring causing $6300 to my '04 TSX including RF suspension, wheel, tire, fender, bumper, and lower A-spec lip. $6300 was nowhere near enough to total it the insurance company said. After 2-3 weeks my baby was back and definitely better than ever.

Get a second opinion and call ICBC (although I've heard they're a pain to deal with, I wouldn't say Ontario insurance companies are any less so).

I used to run body shops and I have an adjuster license. There is no way that is totaled. It's a high hit and an easy fix, it's just a matter of buying the parts. I imagine your airbags didn't even pop.

Can you buy it back? Even though it's been totaled, you can still fix it and drive it. Actually I wouldn't mind buying it back myself! Let me know if I can buy it somehow

Thanks
