Ok, let's go to fantasy world for a minute. Suppose Acura does make an AWD Turbo TSX and an AWD TL. Sounds like both cars are a possibility (the TSX a much more unlikely one). Which one would you rather have and why.

AWD Turbo TSX. All round better car IMO to start with thats simply lacking in some power. Adding a Turbo and AWD would make this car unbeatable IMO.

Its too bad its likely only a fantasy.

I'd get the TSX for the same reason I'm not driving a TL now.

Definately the TSX over the TL. TL feels too big and I like the looks of the TSX better.
(can we make this into a poll to keep track of our votes?)

AWD Turbo TSX would be my pick, simply because the TSX is a better overall package that the TL, it just needs some more power.

Done.

I love fantasy polls. Moved to Car Talk BTW.

EDIT: Everyone should vote, or they can't see the reults.

AWD TSX... no question. Assuming we're talking about 250hp for the TSX (as was mentioned in fantasy land in another thread)

I would pick the TSX too. I never like the new TL, IMO the new TL is a copy of TSX with a few twists.

TL because it's not a turbo. Believed a turbo does not last as long as a regular engine.

I think if you post this kind of similar thread in TL forums i'm sure results would be the opposite.
Me? Turbo'd TSX of course!

Well, the AWD Turbo'd TSX of course.

It doesn't make sense to buy a bigger car (which yields worse handling in most cases) with the same amount of power (assuming the turbo would narrow the power gap between the regular TSX and the regular TL).

I voted for the TL because its a slightly more realistic fantasy..

When has honda factory turbo'd a car (minus the euro diesels) emmm never

but they have a 4wd awd platform for suvs so theres no reason it couldnt be adapted

I should have thrown in that the TL would be 300hp since we are in fantasy land and the TSX would be 250hp. I know this is a TSX site but some people don't like turbos. So I was interested to see
what people thought. To me a turbo in the TSX is a better and cheaper idea than IMA. The 2.2L they talk about must be a destroked 2.4L. If they built a turbo TSX that would be my personal coice but if its IMA I might pass and go with the TL instead.

Honda's turbocharged their race engines, they've turbocharged their microcar engines, they've turbocharged their motorcycle engines and they've even turbocharged their jet-ski. Only reason that I can think of that they haven't sold a turbocharged car in the US (yet) is that they KNOW you'se guys and they KNOW you would crank up the boost until the engine grenades!

I still have a Volvo T5 turbo with almost 140,000 miles, it's a 236hp 20 valve DOHC 2.3 liter inline 5-cyl. with sodium-filled exhaust valves and a forged crankshaft. It still uses absolutely no oil between changes. Problems, sure, mostly electrical, AC, stuff like that. The drivetrain has been absolutely bulletproof (so far). The current S60R and V70R get 300hp out of 2.5 liters.

So I gotta sit in the TSX camp because I like the size of the TSX, handling would continue to rock, and last but not least ... gotta think it would still be quite a bit cheaper

The other reason Honda probably won't make a consumer turbo is their "commitment to the environment". Turbos generally don't get great gas mileage when compared to normally aspirated (and I'm not sure on this, but don't they have worse emmissions too?). This is the same thing that keeps Honda from building a V8 for their high-ends. Even Subaru jacks up some of their cars so they can qualify as light trucks to get around some standards.

Honda has stated frequently that their highest commitment is to the environment and safety. They have a plan in the works to make side airbags standard in all their vehicles, don't they? My bet is you won't see a turbo Honda and you'll only see a V8 if they can get it to 21 city/30 highway, minimum. Maybe a hybrid V8?

Yes, but this only because turbo engines have the effective fuel burning (and hence power) capacity of larger displacement engines. Turbo engines do well in fuel economy comparisons if you compare engines of equal power rather than displacement. VW's 180hp 1.8T still achieves ratings of 25/31 mpg pulling a 3100 car around. It hardly seems fair to compare this with the fuel economy of a 125 hp NA 1.8, which is still only around 26/33 as I recall even with a lighter car (say the 1990-1993 Integra). Even my 1.6L Integra was only rated 27/34, and it weighed 700 lbs less, too.

Emissions are a different story, but a turbo can still easily achieve LEV status. ULEV is more difficult, mainly because it takes the cat longer to warm up with a turbo.

Just wish there is a higher-rev NA engine for TSX. Why Honda doesnt produce Turbo car? You can say it's about commitment to environment. But I would say NA is the true soul of Honda engine. What other car manufacturers can build better NA engine than Honda? That's why turbo is never an option for Honda sport cars.

Really miss Type R. About time for Acura to bring back some Type R series.

Here is an interesting video. A JGTC driver in the new Civic Type R. Stream video takes about 7-8 minutes to load (there is a red loading bar in the center of screen). Check out how nimble this car is and how fast speedo climbs. Who needs lots of torque?

http://www.honda.co.jp/CIVICTYPE-R/m...gle/index.html

there is a "replay" bottom at the end of video if you wish to watch again
