Wire Harnesses for Navigation System
Wire Harnesses for Navigation System
Does anyone know if we can use the wire harnesses on the back of the Accord navigation system and dvd rom on our TSX? I'm thinking of doing the non-navi to navi conversion, but it's so hard to find the connectors for these units. Shouldn't there be a place somewhere that sale these connectors just in case one of them break down? I stopped by the dealer and it seems like they can't get the connectors at all.

After going through the service manual today. I think the only differences between the navi display and non-navi are:
1) we are missing one 20 pin white connector (top center)
2) one of our existing 20 pin connector is missing 3 wires (brn, blu/red, white). If we can find a way to add wire to the empty pin on this connector then we don't need to get this connector at all.
I know it's hard to find a system with wire harness, so what I'm trying to see is if our missing 20 pin white connector is the same connector as on the Accord. From the picture, they both look similar. Does anyone have a better picture of the connector for the Accord navi display? I would imagine that the Accord's screen is the same one we have on our TSX.

So for those who are looking to do this conversion,
all of our existing connector on the non-navi will just plug right into the back of the navi display unit. No wire cutting to those connectors. I double checked the pin diagram and wire colors. They all matched.
For the white connector (top center) all of its wire will go to the DVD rom unit.
The 20 pin white connector with the missing 3 wires is located at bottom center of the unit. If you look at the 2nd picture, the black wire going across at the bottom is kind of cover it. We will need to add 3 additional wires to the back of this connector. The brown wire will go to audio remote switch GROUND, Blu/Red will go to RG GND on the navigation unit, and White will go to RG L+ on navigation unit.
I also believe that there will be some extra wires coming from the DVD rom unit.
One of them will go to VSS on the ECPM/PCM. According to Waynester, there will be no wire at this pin, so we will have to add a terminal lead and tap into it (maybe we can do this for the 3 missing wires too)
Two will go to CAN L & CAN H at the two connectors behind the gauge cluster.
Three will go to ACC, ILL, and +B (locate under the steering column)
So overall it doesn't look that bad. The hard part is to find the wire harness. I'm still trying to learn this as I go, but hopefully when I try to think this out loud, other member can get a picture of what's going on, and they can decide to do this conversion or not =)

This is a great post for others, as this is the kind of pre-planning that is necessary to make a successful conversion. In light of recent people here, its good to see proper planning.
tuoncan, you should be able to order molex style pins that you can use to add the 3 wires to your existing harness. Finding that extra 20 pin harness I imagine to be one of the most difficult points. If you have a chance to buy that accord harness for cheap, I would do it and hope you get lucky. I still wouldn't have high hopes of them being the same, what with one car being made in US and another in Japan, but Honda has surprised me before.
You can still do it even without the harness, just by soldering wires directly to the pins and shielding them with heat wrap. I've done this on stereo projects before, its no fun, but its do-able. I think there was even a last-gen TL guy who did the navi conversion like this and posted it in the TL forums.

Good news!
I was able to find someone with the connectors. I know we only need 4 total (3 for the dvd rom and 1 for the head unit). I paid 120 for all connectors (except XM, which we already have it in our non-navi system). It's a little high, but I know it's not easy to find them.

ebay or junkyard. there is one on ebay right now with no wire harness of course.

Notice one of the button on the display unit is missing. I don't know how trustful this person is. It seems like this display unit was on ebay before. The person might have bought it and decided to sale it back b/c something is wrong with it.
Try to find the wire harness first, and then get the units. I think it's safer that way.

Wire Diagram
The wire harness got lost in the mail. I'm still waiting for 1 missing connector. The person that sold me the connector said that he will have to wait for 30 days before they can track down the lost mail. I have all the wires all soldered up, except the missing connector. I guess it will be a couple more month before I can do anything. While waiting, I spent some time to put together a wire diagram to help those who might be interested in doing this.
The blue wires are the regular wires inside the shield cable. The green one is the steel wire that runs along with the shielding.
The dotted lines are not neccessary if u don't plan to have voice control.
The C501, C554, and C701 are existing connectors inside our car. After going through the manual, I believe that you don't need to take the guage control module off to access the CAN L and CAN H. You can get to them from C554 connector (behind the dash near glovebox). This will make the job more easily.
C701 is in the trunk, C501 is in the front near the driver's door.
For the connectors, you will need 3 for the navigation unit and 1 for the display unit (20 pins- top center). All other connectors can be reused. We will need to add a few wires to the existing connectors. What you can do is get 1 or 2 extra connectors (the one that we don't need) and break them apart. Use those wires and plug them into our existing connector. I actually got a few of these wires available. All I'm missing is the display connector. If anyone knows where I can find one, let me know yeah?

Tuoncan can you send me all your photos from the installation?
