Window Tint Question
Window Tint Question
I'm looking at having someone come to my house to tint it for me. $270 bucks. Is this a good deal for a mobile service? I'm assuming that the "felt" he places on the rubber gasket is the "moleskin" that everyone is talking about? Anyone else heard of this Carbon product by Suntek?
*Carbon/Smoke-Grey Finish/Non-Metallized by Suntek: Lifetime warranty against peeling, cracking, adhesive failure, and FADING. No metal layers that may interfere with cell phone or navigation system signals.
Question: What are the California State Laws on Tinting?
Answer: The windshield can have 4" from the top of tint and the front driver side window can have 70% tint or higher. All other windows can have any amount of tint. Restricted colors in California are red, amber, and blue.
Question: On newer cars, when the windows are tinted do you have to do anything special?
Answer: We will have to remove the door panel to place felt on the rubber gasket. The reason we do this is to cut down on the rubbing between the tint and rubber.

Shit, just talked to the guy at www.mobile-tinting.com. It's $342 (including the 10% off) to include adding the felt to the doors. I'm thinking 35% all around.
Any other recommendations for San Diego tinters?

Read the fine print on the "Lifetime Warranty." It may say only as long as you own the vehicle. And even then you need to make sure the shop that does it will be around when it's time to have it replaced.
Also, why mobile tints? Just drive your car in to the shop! You will never get as good of job done in your own garage. If you take it in to a shop, you know it's more likely to be in business when you need to have warranty work. Thier garage is probably more particlate free than yours so you're more likely to have less debris under your film. And it will probably take less time than if someone has to come set up in your garage and what not. Also, is your garage a/c'd? If not you're gonna have someone sweating all over your nice leather seats, stinkin it up. My suggestion...take it in to the right place. For all of the above reasons. Let on of us pros do it.
