Window Tint

I have a 04 TSX with Navi and I want to get my windows tinted, but legally wouldnt do much for me. Im thinking about doing 15% Llumar all around and im wondering if anyone has had any problems with interference on the Navi. Any help is appreciated.

i did my 05 w/ navi with llumar 5%charcol-ATR, and it screwed the navi pretty well.....it was usually quite lost, sometimes just parallel to the street i was on.....i redid the back glass in a no metal 5% llumar charcol-AT and now all is well......

My tint guy has had VERY variable results with metallic tint on navi-equipped vehicles with the GPS receiver on the rear deck. He recommends against it, but will make attempts (at the customer's cost) with relatively low metal and light products (FormulaOne Ultimate).

His recommendation for the rear window is the FormulaOne Pinnacle which is a ceramic tint. There's no metal, but it is extremely stable, unlike some of the dyed tints out there that will tend to fade or go purple over time.

Issues impacting the navi include the specific metal content of the tint material involved, which can vary by batch layer, and the specifics of GPS reception in your area to begin with, which also varies.

One thing you can do (and we did) is have him give you a scrap piece of the tint material you're hoping to use. Tape it on the deck over the area where the GPS antenna is located. Then go into nav diagnostic mode and see how it impacts reception. There are instructions on how to do that elsewhere on these forums if you search.

Also, which Llumar film are you talking about? They make lots of different ones. The cheapest two are dyed, and won't have any impact on the navi, but are likely to fade over time. The other four are either dye/metal combos, or are sputtered alloy types. Any of them could have an impact on navi.

Lllumar does not make a ceramic type film, which is the only kind that is both fade-proof and doesn't interfere with Nav. FormulaOne and Huper are the only companies I'm aware of that make this stuff.

I have 15% FormulaOne Pinnacle Tint (Ceramic) and I have had no problems with my stuff. I have aftermarket Navi though, and it didn't interfere with my navi, tv reception, or my Valentine radar.

I would recommend ceramic though, so there are no worries, but it's expensive. I paid $255 to have my back doors and rear windows done. If it ends up messing up Navi reception you'll end up paying to have them remove it and also for the replacement tint. Formula One tint is good though because it has a lifetime warranty which you can use at any FormulaOne Dealer. They gave me a FormulaOne Credit card looking thing that holds my warranty/purchase info. If I ever need warranty work, I just have to show that.

The FormulaOne Pinnacle stuff looks interesting. I called my local shop to get an estimate and they said $225 for films all around and install. I've never had a car with tint, so I'm not familiar with it, but is this a typical price? I guess I had heard ceramic tints were more $$$ so I figured it would cost more than that.

Venice....I went home at lunch and found the receipt and warranty card. It also came with a warranty. The name of the actual tint used is Llumastar, 15%, and I've had no signifigant issue with my tint or my Nav reception thus far like I said (~9 months).

The total cost of installation was $245.00; which included tinting the back window, both rear doors, and installing the felt liner/moleskin.

Quote from Bridget O'Leary, editor of Windowfilm magazine, regarding Llumastar technology:
"Exclusive to CPFilms and the Llumar line, films with the Llumastar technology come with lifetime warranties that include a no-color-change feature and are said to be suited for electronics-laden vehicles."

Link the site

Marketing BS doesn't usually carry much water with me personally but, this does seem to support the results that I've had.

18% lumar metallic on mine and I've had no problems. I've had 9 satellites tracking me at one point.

I'm thinking then maybe the installer didn't put on a metallic film cause he realized you have Navi.
