Is that what it is??? A cleaner, more streamlined look??

I guess we're lucky that dealer don't put on those cheezy nameplates anymore on the trunk, huh? I mean, I hope Acura dealers don't do it anymore. Mine doesn't

Debadging is a free way of drawing attention to your car. I mean, why do people spend thousands of dollars on graphics/wings/kits/wheels/lights etc....because they want to draw attention. Debadging an otherwise stock car always gets some peoples' attention, because they don't know what it is and are compelled to ask. People have asked me several times what type of car I own.......

Now REbadging, that's another story. Unless you're running a K20A with a 8K redline and an LSD, you shouldn't be hanging Euro R badges on your ride........

i think you're the only one who cares to keep them on.

I don't really care to keep on the badges. I'd rather people say thats det's car and not det's bimmer.

NO BRA!!!! But I DO have a gigantic park-bench-sized wing and a HUGE exhuast tip. NOT!!!

I had no idea so many Acura enthusiasts did this ... I just figured it's a source of pride in keeping the name of the car, uh ... ON THE CAR????

Ever wax your car by hand? If you have, you know what a pain making sure all the wax inside the letters of a badge get rubbed out and then polishing the badge itself for a whole detail job.

Debadging can also make your car look more generic within the model range. For example, few people on the street can tell the difference between a 50k Cayenne V6 and the 100k Cayenne Turbo without the badges.

"How can a car look naked??" Are you kidding me???

You're not following what I'm trying to say????

O.K. ... for the record ... IMHO

Naked = unfinished; Something missing; Not quite right

I mean, you don't wear a suit without a belt?? Shoes without socks? hence, UNFINISHED...

It's just all I hear about is debadging ... It just seems silly and fad-ish is all I'm trying to say.

I mean, take those great Mustangs of the '60s or the retro Thinderbirds of the '50s or hell even Corevttes ... You don't see people ripping the nameplates off do you?

I'm not trying to offend, but there is something silly in that notion. Like I said, I don't mean to offend.

You guys are Acura owners! Be proud of it

for a 36 year old, your sure are annoying.

It's not a fade, car enthusiasts, regardless of which company , have been doing it for years.

It's just another way to change the car's look to something different, its not like their ripping off every acura badge on the car.

here are some of the reason why we debadge:

1. makes the car look nicer
2. it's a way to not show off one's wealth to the general public. only enthusiast would know what car you are driving.
3. easier to clean/wax

and do a search on "debadge" .. ther'es couple thread on it.

that's the point all of us seem to be saying, it's not important and it's not a big deal.

why do ppl pierce their nose? why do ppl get tatoos? why do ppl wear black?

personal style? like the way it looks? jumping on the bandwagon/fad? since other ppl are doing it?

it's just a easy modification people do to their cars to make it look different from others. if you still can't understand why ppl do it and think it's a fad then that's fine. in the end it's just an opinion.

btw, it must be important to you if you start a thread about it

this is one of the most stupidest threads ever. he starts off by not wanting to offend anyone - then his later post suggests that it is a "fad" and we should be "proud" to be acura owners, implying debadging means we aren't proud.

:troutslap

even after people explain why they debadge - he still doesn't get it. so you dont like it - who cares - i dont like people who drive completely stock, but you dont see me indirectly bashing on them

a classic example of people who dont understand something and assume that anything different from what they believe in is wrong.

Yes ... I DID START IT ...

Why?? Because it mystified me as to how many people were doing it and I wanted to know they're reasons. I don't know why everyone is gettin' so defensive. I was merely stating my opinion as to how I felt about it.

That said, it doesn't mean that I'm not curious as to why OTHER people are doing it. I view it as the equivalent of buying a ROLEX and cracking the crystal to etch out "ROLEX" ... That's seems silly to most people, right?

That's why when some of you guys say, "Oh, it's just a way to keep the car clean etc ..." C'mon, that's silly. YOu can keep teh car clean with an Acura logo or TSX symbol.

As far as some of you guys saying that enthusiasts have been doing it for years. That may very well be. I read Car and Driver and Motor Trend like everyone else religiously. Not once has Brock Yates or any other editor speak about the debadging of a car. OK, so people may have done it for years.

I simply wanted to know WHY and I think I have a right to disagree. Sheesh.

I hope when some of you have little ones, you don't berate them for asking a question.

And BTW, I love the exchange, let's just try not to insult.

JEEZ ... Why do you think I'm bashing???? I said it appeared to me as a fad. How is that bashing you?? Fads are what makes this country great -- the hula hoop, pastel shirts in the 80s, rubik's cube.

Guys, c'mon, no one is bashing you. A little healthy debate is good to for soul. Lighten up.

Actually only one person was able to pull that off in the '30s and 40s... Fred Astaire. And he looked quite dapper.

I debadged mine.....why? Cuz it make the back look cleaner and more symetrical. (Mirror image of car if split in half)

Dont think its a fad but of personal preference....its not like BMW or Benz where you debadge to hide the factor you have the lower end model....

But couldn't some say that WE DO, in fact, have the lower-end model. I mean, in all honesty, we do ...
