Too much traffic to hit VTEC today. I'm wondering...to anybody that can answer my question --> does the sound of the engine VTEC'ing 1st into 2nd sound different than 2nd into 3rd?? I would like to make sure I know as a warning lol

^^ "hitting vtec" happens at a certain engine speed, not during shifts. It should sound the same in 1st gear as it does in 2nd gear with the difference being the road/wind noise. I suppose the sound could be considered different because the revs climb much faster in the lower gear.

I have an MT and can hear the VTEC engage, but it's more like a slight change in the pitch and tone of the engine -- almost like a mini-downshift.

With an AT, you don't have to worry about it, the ECU will take car of you -- no "warning" required. If you want to VTEC, just floor it the next time you have the pole position at a traffic light or freeway on-ramp. I'd have to look at the gear ratios to be precise, but surely you'd hit VTEC somewhere around 30-40 mph. Watch the tach just after it passes 6000 RPM.

Weeeeeeeee!

Another 06 MT - I agree with the above. The difference is very noticable, and worth the wait, but it's just too bad that you have to wait for it.

I can definitely feel it in my '07 AT when using SS mode. I can't feel it in normal automatic mode though....it shift before it gets high enough in the rev range.

It's very short lived though, but it makes the car a good bit faster in SS mode than in automatic.

Finally got to VTEC it a few times, in automatic and SS modes. Do you hear the difference? Yes. Is there an increase in power? Yes (not a significant amount, though). You really have to floor it to jump into VTEC for auto mode, otherwise it will shift b4 6K rpm. Fun? Absolutely.
