Is a Wheel Bearing Covered Under Warranty?

My father has a leased 2008 tsx with 5,000 miles on it. He has been hearing a funny noise for a couple of weeks now, turns out it is the rear left wheel bearing.

(he is a mechanic so he put in the lift)

I will be calling the dealer on monday, but i would like to know if anybody would know if this is going to be covered by warranty?

also i am in new jersey and i am debating whether i should take it to bridgewater acura or to springfield acura.......any experiences with any of these?

thanks for the info guys.

If it only has 5k miles on it, it should be covered. At 5k miles, EVERYTHING should be covered under warranty.

my car was at about 40,000 miles (06 tsx) and the dealer still replaced the wheel bearing under warranty, so i dont think you have anything to worry about

you should ask for one so you are sure to get one. they only have a limited number of loaner cars.

There seems to be a wheel bearing problem with the TSX. Mine went at 70,000 miles. First car I have owned that I had to replace the bearings on. The dealer did not cover it (way over the warranty mileage).

These are the first two cases of wheel bearing failures I've heard about on this board that weren't the result of some one doing something to cause the failure. There's hardly enough evidence to suggest any sort of wide ranging problem. Mass produced parts are expected to have a non-zero failure rate. It's the chance you take when you opt not to pay for a hand built, one off car.

I am taking the car in tomorrow, and i really doubt that this is a wide ranging problem. At least i hope it is not.

so i went to bridgewater Acura today.

They were very surprised that a wheel bearing needed replacement after 6,000 miles. I was in early in the morning they gave me a loaner car. (the whole process took 10 minutes) They called me about two hours later.

Picked up the car, feels great again. Happy with the service i got from them.

That dealer is 10 minutes from me. Nice to see someone else in the area.

I go to Precision Acura in Princeton for service. I didn't like my sales experience at Bridgewater and have not tried them for service.

Well I hated it my bridgewater acura buying experience. I went in, test drove the car. It was some old salesman, i guess he felt my vibe pretty quick that i was not going to buy from them, because i was looking for a specific color transmission combination and I already knew that only a couple of dealers had the car that i wanted and one of them was not them.

He didn't really drop the price at all, and said to me nobody is going to give you the car for the price you want, good luck getting it. Well turns out he was wrong and I was right. I just had to drive all the way to virginia to be right.

I figured since it was under warranty and it was only a bearing the experience wouldn't be so bad. Since i also live about 10 to 15 minutes from the dealer.

I waited for over 30 minutes for someone to help me, after wandering around the showroom. Someone finally asked if I needed help and I said I wanted to test drive a TSX. They said they didn't have any on the lot at the moment, so they took my phone number and said they'd call when they got one....I never heard from them. Other people that I spoke to about them said they are really rude to women in particular and have told several women to "come back with their husbands." Being a female, that just rubs me the wrong way.

How much should I expect to pay to have the rear wheel bearing replaced? I have an 04 with 45k miles that needs to have this done.

Being an old-school feminist, that rubs me all sorts of wrong ways. -- Stupid sales people are never born that way ... they're self-made. Do they ignore the fact that the demo for the TSX is roughly 50% women buyers?
