So what's the difference that makes people prefer the TSX over the Accord?
The TSX can be bought with a more powerful engine too - it's called the TL. The cars are aimed at different markets - TSX is smaller, better handling, sportier. The Accord is the family sedan. To borrow an analogy from another member, the TSX connects you to the road, an Accord insulates you from it.

I thought the rate of heart disease per capita was lower in Japan than in the US?

Unfortunately there's a lot that goes into that "efficient" process gap between the two. I think American auto has tried to improve and be more competative, but there are some fundamental underlying problems that will never allow the gap to fully close until addressed. Nothing that needs to be elaborated further here.

My issues with the American cars I owned have always been around poor design and materials/components, never about manufacturing.

We are forgetting one important fact about this whole debate between the TSX and Accord . The are targeted at diffrent markets . Most people in the North American Market prefeer to be isolated from the road and not feel it . Those of us who appreciate the driving chateristics of the TSX are slim in numbers compared to the masses . So the market will decide what the manfactured produce .

The Japanese over took the US in hours at the workplace in the 80's but that trend was over by the early 90's, just a month ago there was a speacial about it on CNN . The average american works about 4 hrs more a week than any other nationality .

Also the average american only receives about 10 vacation days a year and most countrys including japan average about 30 .
