What are your favorite Navi commands????
First, there's no way the TSX navi has as many voice commands as advertised (like 300 right?). Second what are some of your favorite commands? For me, the "coolness" is wearing off and I never really use the voice commands anymore. Much easier to push a button. Oh well, I would still like to read how everyone uses their voice enabled navi system.

i feel the same way as you...don't really use it...it's too difficult.
for the number of commands that advertised probably includes...all numbers and letters in the alphabet....and things like..."yes" and "ok"

Let me help you!
Well there are unlisted commands, such as "Where am I?" when in map mode. This is much easier to remember than "display current position" or location or whatever...
Then there's all the POI commands. post office, library, etc.
There's one for each menu option. "menu", "change current routing method"...etc
Basically there's a command for practically everything except for "accelerate", "brake", "turn left", "up-shift", etc.
I don't use it as much either...mostly because there's a slight lag in response, so I'd rather just press the buttons so I can continue listening to the music. But if I'm too busy, I'll just let the car do it...like I might ask for the time right before I initiate a turn...that way I don't have to glance over to check.
Besides, it's sometimes easier to just use the navi. For example, I might be using the map mode, and i'll say "xm channel 23" or "xm 1 preset 1". That way, I can just jump over directly instead of having to switch to the radio screen and change the frequency manually

Wow, I can't believe you guys don't use the voice commands anymore.
Granted, I am still a new owner (~2 weeks), but I find them indispensible. It was definitely a major selling point for me, but moreso because I got a 6MT. To me, using voice commands while shifting is not only cool as hell, but it also adds to the safety factor. I don't ever have to take my hands off the wheel/stick (nor my eyes off the road) to change CDs, adjust the temp, etc. I can just focus on driving.
I guess if you have an 5AT, it doesn't matter as much. However, I constantly use my voice commands in my 6MT, and plan on continuing to do so for as long as I own my car .

The only one I use consistently is "go home" to get me to the nearest interstate.
And sometimes the "nearest" commands, like "nearest fast food" or "nearest post office", as that saves some time from navigating through menus.
But this is why I think we'll never talk to our home computers, because typing adn moving the mouse is so much faster than talking to it.

My favorites are:
"Register current location" Really convenient if you want to keep track of a place you just saw while driving along a new street.
"Find nearest *cuisine type here* restaurant" - This one really saves a lot of navigating through menus and almost always gives me ideal results.
Incidentally I get all kinds of comments about the navi, good and bad...........the bad ones are usually from people who hate navi systems in cars.......but even the haters think the "find nearest" POI search is cool.

I have only had my car for a couple weeks now, but so far I really like the voice recognition. Only time will if I continue to use it. Generally, I finding myself using it for things that would take multiple key presses to accomplish.
My favorites so far are:
CD Play Track X
XM Channel X
Temperature Max Low
Go Home
I have noticed that when I first started using it, it seemed to take a while before it understood my voice. But now that I know the commands and how to talk to it, it seems reasonably quick.

i think a couple people just can't get out of old habits.
i use voice commands for a variety of reasons:
1. it's safer
2. keeps the screen nice and clean
3. pretty simple
4. quick
yes, it's quicker to use the voice commands, people who are complaining about it being too slow don't know the proper commands.
if you're going menu by menu, then the touch screen is quicker. but you're not using them right.
we'll certainly be talking to computers, very soon. speech recognition software has leaped forward dramatically, and only gets better. i use it on occasion and love it right now, even though it is still a bit quirky.

I gave up on the voice commands within in 6 weeks of getting the car. I was frustrating to use and nearly always got it wrong. You'd think I was speaking Chinese. Then about a month ago I figured that if hit the button, wait for the "beep" then speak the command it works much better.
Yea, I am sure the rocket scientists picked that up in the manual, but I missed it (and "Yes" I read the manual). It is kind of slow -- press, wait, beep, then say "Nearest..."
I still find it some what tedious. "Go home". Enter pass code, "One, four, two, eight", "Done", "OK" and finally it plots the trip home.
In all I think this is a nice try but in the next TSX it will be much better and the one beyond that even better.
It will be a while till we achieve what we grew up with in Star Trek.

My fave is "How long to the destination?" with "How far to the destination" a close second. I know, not the most useful commands. But I think it's so damn cool that the car will tell you!
Whenever I have people in my car, I make sure to use one or both of these commands...even if they're not really necessary.

I tried to use a bunch, but it just doesn't register the commands well (and yes I wait for the beep).
Both my husband and I tried different commands with the windows closed, quiet environment and spoke clearly and it would still mess up (for some reason 1 out of 3 times - the Navi puts the fan speed to the max, no matter what the command). We also took out the little "Help Guide" to get the exact commands and it still wouldn't do the right task. We even tried the French version, but I can't stand the voice and accent (French from France). So back to English and hope for the best.
So I really just use "CD play disk #" (because it never fails) and press the buttons for the rest.
At one point I might ask to test another TSX w/Navi, since we had no problems with the car we took for the test drive. I'm thinking there's a loose microphone wire... I get friends to try and it's not doing any better with them.

damn french candians. just kidding.
try speaking up and towards where the map lights are in the middle, in front of the sunroof. that's where the mic is i believe, and if the navi ever misunderstands me, i just smack her, and then speak towards that mic. then she always listens.

I thought the mic was on the right-side of the streering wheel on the dash (in the titanium molding) because there's a big round perforated cover that doesn't look like a vent.
I try it. Thanks!
