What are you using for Nav screen protection?

My GF has long nails and while good for backscratching cause me fear when she plays with the nav screen. I tried using 3 palm pilot screen protecters to cover my nav screen and it looks like shi#$)*t.

Was wondering if there are any cheap solutions that don't look like shi#$)*t.

I tried palm pilot cover too and took them off cause of how it looks.

I use a stern warning to be careful with it as protection

I avoid using the touchscreen by using the joystick instead when possible. Other than that, I just give the screen a good wipe-down with a 3M lint free cloth (great investment if you have any electronic devices, including cell phones, LCDs, etc.) every week or so when I clean the rest of the car. The screen still looks new after a year.

Oh, and I don't let everyone that gets into my car play with the screen. Only a few of my good friends that know how neurotic I am when it comes to this sort of thing are allowed to mess with it. That pretty much keeps anyone with long nails from getting near it

I wish BoxxWave made a screen protector for our nav system. I use one of their screen protectors on my Axim, and it is amazing. I've had the same one for over 4 months now, and it still looks brand new. All of the other brands I've tried pale in comparison.

The company NuShield (http://www.nushield.com) sells slip on screen protectors specifically fitted to the Acura Nav screens. Might be worth a look.

It should... I ordered a screen protector from a different company when I first purchased my TSX, and it was for the TL but fit perfectly. It was just a terrible screen protector (Strong Engineering) so I got rid of it after about 2 minutes of use.

Thanks for the joystick idea. Also wondering if there is anyway to remove that "ok" button that comes when you start the navi. You are forced to press "ok" so many times that I worry may damage the screen in future.

First of all, I should tell you that you can select the OK button using the joystick. It even took me a while to figure this out since the button doesn't highlight like the other buttons. When it appears, just press down on the joystick to select the OK button.

Also, bysin is currently working on getting rid of the OK screen. He's been able to modify quite a few things on the nav system, and I have no doubt that he will continue to surprise us.

Klear Screen makes a polish that is great. It works like a wax to protect your screen. I used it initially on my Apple Powerbook because it is so thin that the keys touch the screen. It goes on like any polish and you have to buff it with the cloths that come with it. It helps repel dust and prevents scratches. Great stuff!

iKlear, Apple Polish kit approx. $20

Just received 2 Nushield protectors for my 05 TSX NAVI. They arrived in a USPS First Class envelope and were both scratched right out of the gate. Even the blue film they put on the smooth side couldn't save these things. I've requested a refund from NuShield.

PS- Klear Screen is a great product! I've been using it for years and it will protect your touch screen very well with monthly polishing.

I second that. BoxWave screen protectors are .

I am using the Anti-Glare version on my Treo 650. Not only does it protect the screen from scratches, it also makes it look free of fingerprints and such. Good stuff! I submitted a request to have them make a version for Car nav systems.... if enough of us would submit that request they just might.

I just purchased some of the NuShield screen protectors for my navi screen and they look great, but I can no longer use the touch screen! Has anyone tried these? There isnt a trick to it is there?

If I cant get the touch screen going I want to look for something else. Does anybody have a recommendation for?

I just received mine and have no problems with the touch screen not working. My question is that they seem to be loose and can move depending on which person is using the screen, passenger or driver. Other protectors for PDA'a seem to "stick" to the screen. Can this movement of the protector " scratch" the screen?

I've used the same ebay Navi protector and it works very well. I had a very hard time getting the air bubbles out at first and it really looked like crap. I left it alone for a few days and most of the air bubbles when away or reduced in size. I can't see any air bubbles when the screen is on.

Only used it for 3 months, not sure of long term wear/tear or how easy is it to remove years down the road.

How about using her knuckles to push the buttons on the screen instead of her finger nail??

Can you see the screen well in daylight? I received mine last week and just "used" the NuShield on a long weekend trip. Even after adjusting the brightness to max, I could not see the screen most of the time, fairly dark or too much glare , which defeats the purpose of having the screen. With a laptop/PDA you can adjust the angle to eliminate the glare. I could see the fingerprints well though. Maybe its not designed for senior eyes .

I have no problems seeing the screen during the day in the bright New Mexican sun. I also have 35% tint all around and I keep my sun roof panel closed all the time. I also adjusted the color of my Navi screen to blue instead of the factory day/night default colors.

Maybe the default color is reflecting too much light during the day. Try a different Navi screen color to cut down on daytime glare or darken the contrast?

I do get a lot of fingerprints; I just spray a little Windex (clear stuff made for tinted windows) on a paper towel and wipe once a week.
