Here it is. Print it and use it as bargaining power if you want.

Here it is. Print out the appropriate page and bring it to your dealer as a bargaining chip.

I would love to score a Navi less than 30k w/ tax. The bad thing is, Los Angeles tax is 8.25%!

Invoice + destination = 27,872.00. So I'd be paying invoice + destination + 500 = 28,372.00. I wish it had been this easy to get a good deal when buying my 04, we only got $300 off MSRP, free tintting and locks. Didn't negotiate as hard though, weren't patient enough =)

What's the best way to bring up the subject of trade-in?

price will change. consider the tax savings of the trade, and consider what you can get selling privately. if you're not in a rush to sell, selling privately is probably your better deal.

but now you know the price with no trade, so see how they adjust (screw) the price.

and check out this for comparison:

Hmm, currently I have an 04 TSX 5AT non-navi MSM, and it's paid off. It only has 33k miles on it. The kbb link through Acura's website only appraised it for 18.9k though, and mentioned fees that dealers have to pay on cars to recoup. But I'm seeing lots of cases where much more than that is being offered for a trade in. Trading in would also net me a great savings cause of not having to pay taxes. So what's the real story?

that's great! i wonder if they'd give me the same deal you got...
come to think of it, that's some good marketing on their part. did they know you were on this forum before they made the offer?

have they given you a date for delivery yet?

i wonder why so many dealers seem to be giving good numbers? maybe to increase year end sales stats...

If any dealer gives you more than 20K for that car they're making money somewhere else.

You'd have to do some math to see if the tax savings is enough to make up for the lower price you'd get for the car in tarde vs. private sale. You also have to determine the hassle factor price: How much less are you willing to take on a trade (vs private sale) to get rid of the car fast and get the instant gratification of a new car?

Question Price Plus Sales tax.

I think my dealer is a little shady. Is there a way to find out what the sales tax in New York and New Jersey is supposed to be. I live in New York but I'm pricing out the 06 TSX in NY/NJ/PA. I'm privately selling my 02' Civic EX w/leather and that fake shiny silver detailing on the inside, not sure what its called. Anyway, so I'm putting cash down and financing the rest through my Credit Union so my rate will be 4.5%, but I see people with 6% tax and then 8.5% how do you find out unless you trust the dealer to tell you? My biggest concern is I'm going to try to get out the door below 30k like some of the other lucky souls here but I don't want to fight the dealer on every issue. Any help?

if you are registering the car in NY, i believe the sales tax is 8.4% (maybe it's 8.5 not sure).

PA is 6%
NJ is 6%

This isn't set by the dealer, so i'm not sure why you are confused.

Just got quoted on the first 06TSX in Milwaukee area (6MT, non-navi) for $500 below MSRP. ($28,000 incl. dest.) was quoted on MSRP of ($28,505incl. dest.) Ummm no, I think I can do better than that. Chi-town, here I come.

I wasn't really confused, and I know the dealer doesn't set the tax but I wasn't sure if you paid taxes where you purchased the car or where you registered the car and you just answered the question for me. The last car I bought was purchased in New York and it was in 2002 so things might have changed since then. Now at least I can add up some numbers and figure out what my best OTD price will be. All the dealerships on Long Island have told me mid to late December for any TSX delivery before asking color and transmission type. What kind of a deposit are they normally asking for? Did you set up all of the financing before taking delivery or is that all taken care of at the table?

i'm financing through credit union. applied for loan, will give CU the VIN, they give me a check.

mid to late december is in line with what i hear in jersey, they seem to be trickling in now. i put a deposit of $250 and demanded that it be refundable.

costco and ubs

Hi,

I started shopping for 06 tsx (auto w/o nav). I am a member of costco and ubs (united buying service), so I decided to check their prices. Today, I met with a salesman at a dealership who represents costco auto--I will be seeing ubs representative later this week.

The costco representative told me that costco members get $1000 under msrp ($27,890+$615=$28,505), so, the member price is $28,505-$1000=$27,505.

Is $27,505 a fair price for 06 tsx (auto w/o nav)? I will post ubs' price after I speak to their salesman. I will must likely mention this price to other dealers to see if they could beat it.

it sounds pretty good, but not compared to some deals that have been had.

i'm getting mine with navi 5AT for 27,500 plus 189 doc fee. so for $184, i'm getting navi.....

MSRP is a dirty four letter word. Talk to the tight ass dealer about invoice. I got mine for 2.5% above, other have done much better. Unless it doesn't really matter to you. In that case enjoy your car, and hey at least you didn't pay retail.

It's about $1000 too high IMO. $700-800 too high at a minimum.

jkozlow, thank you for your price information. I will be contacting a general dealer to expand my choices.

I think that if I could get an 06 tsx w/o nav for $27,000, it would be a fair deal. Off I go!

WOW, with nav, you are getting $27,500! That is a great deal. I don't know if I could pull that off though. Good Work!

Hi dj Dozhe,

I only want a fair deal which could make me happy and the dealer happy. I will try all my options to find that fair deal. Is applying 2.5% of invoice price the usual car buying practice?

It seems that the fair price for an 06 tsx w/o nav is between $26,500 and $27,000. Am I somewhat correct on thinking this way?

According to edmunds, most people are paying $28,065. Edmunds still do not have the invoice price, yet, though.

Desktop, the dealer can win two fold. Profit from individual sales, and volume. The invoice price is not the price they're paying the manufacturer for the car, so even selling the car at invoice they're making a profit. Obviously they're going to try to sell the car at MSRP, and many people will buy the car at MSRP when it's just come out.

Some are willing to instead go for volume, as they get bonuses based on how many cars they can push within a month, and having fewer cars sitting on the lot reduces the overhead costs associated with the dealership. The end of the month is the best time to deal on a car. December is a great month because sales forecasts are generally pretty low for this month - everyone is busy with family or Christmas shopping, no one is out on the lots buying cars. You'll be making your dealer happy just by giving him a sale!

So try again at the end of this month, and aim for about 500 over invoice. You can find the invoice pricing in another thread.

We received our 5AT with NAV for $610 over invoice, but was able to only pay $100 for the protection package that was listed for $328 as it was already on the car. I'd say we got an awesome deal.

Yui,

I disagree, the year end for car dealers is November, not December. If they don't meet the sales figures, they are screwed. The new year for dealers starts in December so they are not in a rush to give cheap prices, unless, they are going for volume, period

Every car buying website I've read about indicates December is the best time to buy a car because no one is in the market to buy a car in December due to the holiday shopping season.

I bought my 05 TSX in December 2004 about 1 month after the 05s were released and purchased it for $500 over invoice with maybe about 2 minutes of negotiating over the phone.

I thought there was a monthly quota to meet as well? There's definitely added pressure in December to go for volume because of the holidays taking everyone away from the dealerships. Kinda makes me wonder why they'd release a new car right before the holidays - maybe if the car is good enough it may draw in buyers for other models?

OK, what do you guys think of this deal?

28500 06 TSX with navi
19360 04 TSX without navi (bought in April 03, 33k miles)
9140 pretax cost
9880 post tax cost

10500 out the door (388 doc fee, 22 AZ fees, rest for registration)

I basically convinced him to give me a little more on my trade in than what another dealership had appraised it for so I could get an even OTD figure. 10k was my original OTD target but that woulda placed the trade in value a little bit above the KBB figure for an excellent rating.

What happens with the deposit btw? Is it refundable, and under what circumstances? I'll check with the particular dealership but I wanted to get your feedback as well...

I have a dealer who straight out and told me the invoice price is $26,051 for 2006 TSX w/o NAV. And he asked me how much I am willing to pay for the car. I want to be fair for both of us.

So, what percentage above the invoice price ($26,051 06 TSX-/Auto/no NAV) is considered as a fair purchasing price for me and the dealer?

Thanks!

Tell him you'll put down a deposit right now if he'll do $500 over invoive. That's more than enough profit, and several people (including me) have gotten their cars for $500 over. Keep in mind, they will still charge a dealer fee of around $200 as well, so make sure that amount is disclosed and in writing up front.

Just for reference, here's how my '06 with NAVI breaks down:

$27,892 (invoice + dest)
$500 (over invoice price)
$200 (dealer fees)
--------------------------------
Total = $28,572

You should be paying about $2000 less than that if you're not getting NAVI.

Quick Reply: What price are you paying for 2006 TSX ???
