What Oil Filter should be used? Acura's or Mobil1's?
i am about to get my first oil change at 2,500.
i was going to have this done at the local EZ lube.
should i go buy the oil filter they use at the dealer and take it to EZ lube? or should i just go to EZ lube and use their mobil1 filter?
which is better?

I asked this in another thread - but got no response, so I'll try here........
Anyone any info (like above link) of the Mugen Filter?
Anyone tried one and can say whether it's any better or not?
Looking at the image on the Mugen website, it appears to indicate it has better flow rate, filters just as well as OEM, but also retains(?) more pressure for high rpm state (VTEC invoked).
Thinking about it, but would rather not if it's just paying for a name brand ultimately.

I use the OEM Honda s2000 filter. Top quality Japanese Toyo Roki filter, and larger size for a little more oil capacity.

I just did my oil change on my 07 IS250 at 730 miles. My dad thought I was crazy but I love my car sooo much that I had to change it. Plus the oil was almost half inch above the fill mark on the oil dip stick.
This guy did an oil change on his GS350 with 501 miles on it and had huge scrap metal shavings in his oil filter so I got and changed mine.
I didnt see any big metal shavings thought but feel alot better.

Changing your oil early cannot harm your engine.

there's a special for a pack of 6 filters for $26. Should I get it? Is that the same thing the dealers use when I get an oil change?

Honda recommends leaving the oil in until the first scheduled service interval, as explicitly stated in the owner's manual. They are the only OEM that I know of who makes such a statement.
Anyway, either filter is fine and you are unlikely to realize a benefit from the additional cost of the Mobil 1 oil filter if the oil and filter is changed when recommended. Even the infamous orange can will do fine if changed at the recommended intervals, or more.

Folks, please take the time to read your manual.
It says very clearly not to change your oil before your scheduled maintenance.
that's (at least) no oil change before 3k. myth or not, follow the book.

Those surveys are done by self proclaimed experts and are completely unscientific. What is considered "good" and "bad" are merely the opinion of the author. There is 0 scientific evidence to back up his claims. All of the filters are built to meet or exceed OEM requirements, while I'll agree that some are better built than others...some are built to a "just enough" state. With that said, stick with a mid-ranged filter, but even the cheapest filters will not adversely affect your engine life provided that they are replaced when recommended.

Yes I understand, but what he explains is that most filters are manufactured by the same companies and are the same in design and materials but charge more for one than the other when it is exactly the same thing.

Well, while it's true that filters are manufactured by only a select few manufacturers (similar to auto batteries), there are some slight differences in the filtration efficiency ratings of various filters.
For instance, the SuperTech and STP filters are both entry-level offerings from Champs. While they may appear "identical" to the eyes of some, the STP media actually offers slightly better efficiency according to my ex-Champs contact.
Likewise, the K&N and Mobil 1 filters are made by Champs. They are their flagship product(s). However, the K&N product seems to perform a bit better according to an independent lab.
Note: I didn't read the backyard test, so I have no clue what the reviewer said.

I was skeptical about the "don't change the oil early" claim in the Acura owner's manual also, but someone else here actually corresponded with Acura and received a response claiming that the initial oil fill was specially formulated for break-in and should not be changed early.

just buy those cheapo rubber filter wrench. but i agree on the hand tightening of the filters. they tighten and seal better after the startup of the car. thats how we do it to on industrial diesel engines too.

I've always hand tightened the oil filters on my cars with no problems but the above is what Honda/Acura recommends.
