what kind of oil?

Per tank? of? Gee, I reach 5K-6K rpm's like all the time (and I mean all the time), so I guess I'm a little confused about what your definition of driving your car hard is. Synthetic oil is just better oil. It has some characteristics that make it better, and if you're willing to spend extra, then yeah, sure, change. But.... don't make the mistake of assuming it will last any longer, your change interval should remain the same. I'm a huge fan by the way, and have used synthetic since new in our 05 and 07 TSX's (with over 163K and 145K miles respectively). Did it help make them continue to run like new? We'll never know, but I really doubt it hurt.

I've been using Mobil 1 since about my 2nd oil change +5 years ago on my 06 TSX (85,000 miles now). I still don't use or leak any oil between my 5,000 miles change intervals. I'm planning on keeping my TSX for my son when he is ready to drive in 2 more years. I figured syn oil would be better in the long term.
- My gas mileage increased slightly when I switch; about an extra .4-.6 mpg improvement,
- Much less sludge and deposits in the engine down the road,
- Better for cold and hot weather starts,
- Better for starting when you car sits for a while (coats engine parts better),
- Significantly less chance of oil viscosity breaking down because of extreme conditions, and
- Makes me feel better.
You are pretty much exceeding the TSX oil standard with most if not all syn oils. You can do a search for the different types other owner like to use. I purchase my oil from Wal-Mart and take it to the dealership to change. It usually comes out to $25 total for a free car wash, check tire pressure, top off any other fluids, test battery, check air filter, inspect brakes and check for any problems (fluid leaks, tire wear, etc…).

Lots of oil threads already, and just about as many opinions. You won't go wrong with any recommended oil.
I change my oil just once a year @ 10k miles with Mobil 1. Oil analysis report says I'm good for another 2k miles. Just about due for my second oil change.

Castrol Syntec
I am now at 63k miles on my '07 TSX. I just recently (this past weekend actually) changed the oil myself. Getting to the oil filter is a pain in the ass, but other than that, it's a simple change.
I bought Castrol Edge Syntec 5w20, and the only reason I got that vs Mobil-1 is that Advance Auto had a sale and Castrol a $15 mail in rebate. So I essentially got 5 quarts of oil (synthetic) and an oil filter (Purolator) for $25.
I used to change my oil every 5k, but now will probably switch to 7k since I am using synthetic going forward.

The real answer you are looking for is do you change it at the correct interval and do you check your dipstick and add oil as needed?

I started out using LubroMoly 5W30 that I had stocked up before losing my BMW 325. I've used Amsoil 10W-30 for about the last 6-7 changes. I've used Mobil1 filters the whole time. I definitely support Simba's stance on oil changes.. don't automatically figure you can just let it go 2x-3x longer because it's synthetic. Treat the car well and it'll prevent a lot of issues.

5W-30 is specified for the TSX, and for a variety of reasons, I'd suggest sticking with it.

in the manual for the tsx it says to use 10w30 rather than 5w30 if the temp never goes below -7 the coldest i can ever remember it getting where im at was 16, and the 5 and 10 is just the start up viscosity and the 30 is when the engine is warm so i figured it just came down to the temp where you live rather 5 or 10

Well I will be one (probably the only one) to comment that I use conventional Mobil oil. I have an 07 and don't want to let the MM light go on for long period of time especially if Honda has a way to detect that you left it at 0%. Mine usually comes on around 4500 miles so the standard Mobil 5000 works for me. And yes I curse Honda every time I change the oil when that filter comes off and oil goes everywhere.
If I recall, someone mentioned that the 2011 and 2012 Accords now require a synthetic blend. I wouldn't be surprised if Honda follows Toyota and with the new Accord makes synthetic a requirement.
Does conventional oil cause a buildup of deposits longterm, probably, will it be enough to cause issues with your engine, doubtful.

As for prices, the Honda dealer wants 24.95 for basic oil change and $34.95 for the synthetic change so I don't mind the extra $10.
