What is this? (from the Ice Box)

I don't have the instruction manual anymore and my ice box is already installed (not by me) in my TSX for over a week now. I'm not experiencing anything odd but I came across this in my closet...

anyone knows what this is for and if it is necessary to put it back in the ice box? >_>

Thanks in advance

the coupler that goes from the stock rubber piece on the bottom of the intake box to the velocity tube on the ice box. However it's not really needed and you can run the velocity tube regardless I believe

so... it is safe for the intake (and for my car) to run without it? Then what's the point of having it in the first place? (better defintion of "coupler" in automotive please? ^_^)

I should look under my hood first thing in the morning tomorrow...

How is the Icebox tube in the bumper cavity currently connected to the bottom of the airbox?

Z - you wont see where that piece goes under the hood, you have to pop the front bumper off, or take off the driver side wheel and pull back the fender lining. I would be willing to bet speed concept just wedged the velocity funnel into the stock rubber tube that would connect the air resonator to the stock intake. If it doesn't rattle around down there they still bolted the velocity tube of the ice box to that bolt inside the fender. So, no it will not hurt your car to not have that, it wont hurt the intake, it all works the same. Just a different take on install that's all.

oh cool. Thanks Chris. That gave me a peace of mind since I'm really not hearing anything unusual.

I'm kinda surprised(?) that they didn't even tell me about it nor ask about it before/during installation that I was missing this. I'm gonna give them a call tomorrow to see what they actually did (I'm sure the guy remembers hopefully) just out of curiosity.

so I called but the guy who installed my ice box is conveniently on vacation. According to the guy who picked up, he said he might have used the stock coupler to substitute the missing ice box coupler. Does anyone know if the stock intake comes with a coupler? I can sorta believe this because I don't see a similar bottomless cup part with the rest of the stock intake.

well if you're really freaking out over nothing lol, then you can jack up the car, take off the driver side wheel and pop the clips holding in the fender liner, pull it back, and see how the velocity tube is connected. That way you can prove to yourself it's all ok.
