Post What extended warranty do YOU have?

Sup guys,

Just curious to know who has an extended warranty and WHAT kind of extended warranty do you have?

In any case that some malfunction occurred in your car did Acura honor it?

Is there a way i can find a list of what exactly is covered, and what is not?

Thanks,

Mike

I have the standard CPO warranty that comes with a certified Acura. Is the car you're buying certified pre-owned from a dealer, or are you buying from a private party? I honestly don't think you need another warranty on top of the CPO warranty. You can look online at Acura's own site for details on this warranty, and you also get a booklet on it when you get the car.

yes it is certified pre-ownedd from acura with 10k miles.

However, they are telling me that for 800 bucks i can get "complete" extended ccoverage which would cover bumper to bumper.

Save your money, IMO. How long does their warranty go? I believe the CPO warranty covers bumper to bumper for an additional year, and drivetrain to 100k miles. I honestly don't think you need it, but if it makes you feel better about your purchase, then by all means, get it.

powertrain will be 7yr 100k...with the 800$ it will be bumper to bumper 7yr 100k.

I dont want to get it though, if say my car starts over heating and they say that is not covered though. That's why im asking if anyone has actually had to put it into effect yet.

Sorry, but I need to rant about this...

All extended warranties are essentially insurance that you pay for entirely up front. My take on insurance is that it should be purchased for important things that you could not hope to pay for if things go bad. ie, you become very ill and have huge medical bills, your house burns down, you cause a huge car accident with considerable damage/injury, etc. I suppose some people might not be able to afford repairs to their cars/computers/electronics, but the companies that sell these warranties have already done the math...rest assured that they are not losing money--quite the opposite! I think you're better off putting the money you would have used into it's own savings account if you're so convinced something will go wrong with your car. Maybe others' can comment on this philosophy?

So far, I've never heard of anyone having those issues. If those things did happen to this car, I'd venture to guess it would be way past 100k miles, in which case your warranty won't cover it.

It's possible of course, but the statistics and numbers are on the insurance/warranty company's side. Alternatively, what if your car never has any problems?

BMW CPO, Acura has nothing to do with it. For a list of coverage, check with BMWUSA.

I am a believer in the extended warrenty with vehicles. My last car was an Acura CL 3.0 and I had a few things go wrong that if I had not had the warrenty i would have had to pay for. One of those was an Alternator and a Transmission. Plsu if you get it from an Acura Dealer the replacement is a new Acura Part so in my 120K CL I had a brand new transmission with 0 miles. Unfortunately I was hit by an 18wheeler and that car was totaled. I bought a new TSX with less than 10K miles on it but i forked out for the extended warrenty to cover the car bumper to bumper to 100K. Your right you do pay for piece of mind and for a car it was a price i was willing to pay since i had sucha good experience with it and my dealer from the last car

Ok, One more question.

I am purchasing an '05 tsx "certified Pre-owned"

The sales people are telling me that the extended pre-owned warranty only cover engine and powertrain for 7yr/100,000 miles and that i can get full bumper to bumper coverage on any and all parts of the car for $880 at the time i sign the contract.

Am i getting jipped or is this already included? Or is this just a scam?

Any advice or opinions would be great.

Thanks,

Mike

My advice, check out the Acura website for information on their CPO program.

My dad's been in the car biz for over 20 years. When I bought my TSX, he told me not to waste my money on the xtended warranty. I asked him why not, and his reply was : "It's an Acura." He also said that most big ticket problems tend to show within the original factory warranty period, and most often within the first 2 years. Spend the cash on some nice wheels or something.

Good luck! Just remember...you can buy an original factory/Acura warranty for the car up until it has 6000 miles. No need to feel pressured at the dealer (I believe there are even threads here that detail where to buy Acura warranties over the internet). One minute the salesman will be all praises for the reliability and quality of Acura, then when you're signing paperwork he'll recommend you "protect your investment" or other such BS and suggest you drop another 1-2k on a warranty.

This particular dealership is selling me a used 05 tsx with 10k miles.

The car is certified so it has a 7yr/100k powertrain warranty included. However, the manager of the acura dealer told me that i can pay 880, and that will cover EVERYTHING bumper to bumper. In the event that a light bulb, or even the navi were to go out in that 7yr/100k period it would be replaced with no deductible, no questions ask (or so i hope).

I'm in the same boat...picking up an '05 with 14K miles this afternoon. Its got the standard CPO warranty, but the dealer is really pushing the extended warranty. They actually dropped the warranty price from $1200 to $800. I still told them no thanks.

To me its a waste of money. Trust me, they have done the math and there is a reason they want to sell you this so bad.

Good luck!

we opted for the extended 6-year warranty for our 2007 TSX, but we stopped at the lo/jack. i figure to be driving the car for at least as long as the warranty, so it'll be worth it in the case something does go wrong.

I'm going to go with the extended. My father's navi in his x5 went like a month ago... and if it wasnt for the warranty he would've been in the whole 2grand to pay for a new system...

if i dont end up using the warranty, at least i had 6 years piece of mind.

I had an RSX, bought it Certfied Pre-owned from Acura. It had a warranty till I believe 55K bumper to bumper (45K plus they add 10K when you buy it certified if I remember correctly). I bought the extended bumper to bumper and at 65K the A/C went out. After they fixed it, they told me it was going to cost me $2900. I told them to check my warranty.
They called me back, it cost me NOTHING. I know it's an Acura and I love my TL, but if $3K is nothing to you don't worry about getting it.

That doesn't include my trunk relay, SRS sensors, and other little things were covered under warranty. With all these little problems and the fact I was getting married, I traded it in and gave Acura another chance.

I've been extremely pleased with my 01' TL, although I miss my 5-speed.
