WHAT EXACTLY IS A "SPORTSHIFTER"

Happy holidays friends, and thanks for your patience. I purchased a 5at Silver/ Ebony to be delivered soon. I liked the sportshifter feature quite a bit and that is why I purchased the vehicle. Can someone with a lot of patience please explain what the "Sportshifter" is? Any advantages or disadvantages? Are you pleased w/ yours?

Thanks again

A sportshifter is basically a fancy way of calling an AT tranny with a shifter that lets you select through gears.

Pros are all of those of an AT, plus you can keep the car in the gear you want for the reasons you have.

Cons are basically, it's still just an AT.

The pro is that you can use it for passing or bring the rpm to its max.
range and maximum horse power and then shift it.
The con is that some dont know how to drive the sport shift and accidently got
pump into that gear and keep driving it on the first or second gear all the time.

it's also a lot more fun than your typical AT. I love its ability to shift freely, but 2nd-1st is too conservative. I've been working on some tight corners and really am able to feel the car a lot more, but sometimes when revs drop to around 3,000 and I want a surge of power for corner exiting, I find myself unable to shift to 1st. I love the tranny, though, and am very careful with it of course. I can see why they limited the 2nd-1st shift, waaay too many ignorant people out there. I understand the care over excitement philosophy. Man do I wish I had an MT for those tight almost U-Shaped turns where I need to go 20 or under, I would be able to get great corner exiting without sacrificing corner entry, something I do a lot to get the car to go into 1st. What a fun car to drive!

Friends,

Can you please tell us, first timers, how to use the sports shift?

I mean, explaining the points like
(1) in which gear should the car be when we start it from zero speed.
(2) When we accelerate at what rpm/speed should we change the gear?
(3) When we decelerate at what rpm/speed should we change the gear?
etc.

1. 1st or 2nd
2.anywhere from 2500rpm + depending on how fast you want to go
3.that really depends on what your doing.but dont worry to much the car wont let you down shift if your rpms are high.as for shifting from 2-1 id let the car do it to save wear on the tranny.

1. 1st on dry payment, 2nd on snow and ice. I generally shift from 1st to 2nd at 10 MPH on a level or decending grade.
2. From 2000 RPM up; depending upon grade, traffic, and other factors. I generally shift in the range of 2500-3000.
3. For all but 1st gear, as soon as you realize that you need to reduce speed. It will not downshift (nor, will it queue the command) if the RPM's are too high for the lower gear. For first gear, wait until the RPM's are below 2000 or your speed is below 15 MPH. Otherwise, there is a very noticable jerk.

In my opinion, the Sport Shifter is an essential component of the TSX. It allows me to bias my driving either towards economy or towards performance and control.

Hey Guys........As one who is undecided about what tranny to get I found all of this very hellpful. I love the tranny in my RSX-S,6sp.manual,but sometimes I think an AT might just be the ticket. Thanks for all of your input. That was a good question.

The SS in the TSX is the best AT tranny I have ever used...my other Honda is a stick but I LOVE the SS in the TSX....if you are tired of the stick thing I'm sure you will like the SS in the TSX makes the driving experience so smooth in this car. I love it.
