Well It Finally Happened (Minor Accident)

SPECS: 06 TSX /W NAVI NHB 25K Miles

The timing was perfect. I was parked in a parking space in a parking lot. There was a semi parked behind me along a curb just out of sight from my rearview mirror. Usually I put my arm around the passenger seat headrest and turn completely around while backing out, but a car was approaching and I looked to see who it was and CRUNCH -- right into the iron "bumper" of the semi at ~ 5mph. It's getting fixed a week from Monday. I'll take some guesses on the dollar amount of damage before posting the estimate cost that I got.

That, my friends, is what we call a $500 (deductible) 5 second mistake (not counting applicable rate hikes). Needless to say, my buddies now call me Soccer Mom.

Rust is setting in

Ouch, sorry to hear that

On the plus side though, at least the accident wasn't with another car. Or else that would have been a bigger headache.

I cringe everytime I view an "accident" thread.

so to sum it up, looks like your in the market for the following:

CF trunk
Rear fog
what else haha

dont pay insurance just eat the cost man its not worth the rate hikes. new trunk is like 300 and then 300 to have it painted. I am sure your rate hike for the year would be more than 100 total.

I was going to say the same thing as colt. Eat the costs, damage doesn't seem to be too bad and besides... now you have an excuse to mod.

That sucks but at least it was your trunk and not your rear quarter panels.

id pass on insurance also
for the price of getting a trunk and painting it, you can just buy the CF one
and look on ebay to find the taillight peice
if im not mistaken, the rear fog goes on the other side
in all, it will set you back around ~750-800

Hi guys,

Thanks for your responses. I'll be keeping the trunk stock. The adjuster gave me an injusurance quote of $2200. That included repainting the entire bumper also because the paint on it is scratched off and chipping away, so I suspect if it's not repaired, it will "eat" into the rest of the bumper.

Thoughts?

Don't feel bad, I just backed into one of those yellow poles at a gas station on Friday. Don't mean to hijack your thread or anything but here's a pic...

Don't feel bad man I just backed into one of those yellow poles at a gas station on Friday. Don't mean to hijack your thread but here's a pic... it wouldn't have been so bad had I not cracked the taillight and dented the quarter panel. Yuck.

hey studville, try and get a few more estimates if you are able to, $2200 sounds really steep. I backed into a wooden telephone pole stupidly a few months back, and my damage looks almost identical, although about 50% smaller. I also had some rear bumper scuffs as a result, so basically I'm having the rear bumper and decklid repainted and repaired. I found a bodyshop able to do it for $750, and dropped it off today. My exposed metal didn't start to rust until it was exposed to rain. I got estimates ranging from $600 to $1500, so it doesn't hurt to shop around.

$750 sounds a little on the cheap side I would be afraid of the quality of work. With needing a new trunk, inner taillight, bumper, and paint trunk and bumper.

325 trunk
350 bumper
100 taillights

700 to paint the two pieces
300 in labor

775 parts
1000 paint and labor

personally wouldnt think it should cost you more than that really. but would definitely not go as low as 750 as quality would be very questionable.
