How often does everyone wax their cars? I do mine just about every month over the warmer months-is that too much?

I wax anywhere from every 2-4 months...
I use to wax once a month in Chicago due to the road salt in Winter...

Clay/Polish 2 times a year Zaino. Wax every month or so with S100.

S100 is an awesome wax. Lasts more then a month easily. Goes on like butter, comes off without messy chauk. My new fav...

What do you mean by "white residue"?

I have both the Meguire's NXT liquid wax and the spray wax.
When I "wax off," I geta whole bunch of white dust from it that goes between the crevices of the car.

Am I doing something wrong?

Most waxes require that you avoid direct sunlight. Zaino, however, does not.

Twice a year is more than enough for me.

Probably leaving it on too long. Most waxes nowadays dont need to sit and dry on the car any more. Megs Gold Class and S100 are two examples...

But some waxes are formulated to not chauk up at all. I could leave S100 on for a long time and it still wont chauk up.

Funny you mention this because it was the decidng factor today between Mother Cleaner Carnauba and Nu Finish. The latter says on its label it can be applied under the sun. I wanted to buy one with Carnauba (have been using NuFinish for 15 years) . Decided to continue with a Polymers based anyway.
