Actually, 7.5% for a used model is considered cheap.

Here's an update on my situation: I've called my salesperson from the dealer and she got back to me initially with some pretty bad numbers.

To keep my finance payments where they are, I'd have to fork out almost $8000. Apparently now that the finance rate on the new 05 TSXs is down to 3.9%, it'd be hard for them to sell my car on the used lot (with a used rate of 7.5%).

After hearing that I was feeling like that was it. I was stuck with the auto... at least for a while longer. Then, the next day, my salesperson called me back.

They've got a person who's motivated to buy a lightly used 05 spec'd out just like mine, and buy it outright (no finance). So they made me another offer: $4500 down if the potential buyer wants my car, and my rates will stay the same. That to me is reasonable.

We'll see where it goes from here...
Smart decisison. My feeling is, if you are not happy about the Auto right now, I don't think you will be happy with the MT either, considering you are going to pay extra cash for it.

ryanhook,
Sure this isn't just a case of the grass always being greener on the other side? I say just keep what you got and save/invest your money -- then buy a S2000 (as a second car) down the road! Of course I did it backwards, I already have the S2000 (not as a daily driver though) and I plan to trade my Civic for a TSX this fall.

Sitting in the TSX does make me feel smarter.

dom, I was thinking that over last night. I could trade in now and get a better finance rate on an 05 than I am paying, or I could hold off until fall to see what Honda has up their sleeves for the 06 TSX. (Time to talk to my friend at Honda.) Mind you, the longer I hold onto the car, the less it'll be worth when I trade it.

As for the TL, maybe I'll take a look at one just to look at one, but I still lean toward the TSX.

Hrmmm.... decisions, decisions...

Forget the TL etc etc

your best bet would be to trade in your tsx for a certified pre owned 6spd one exactly like yours..(or change colors)

to minimize you loss

If he want's to really minimize his loss he needs to:
A) buy directly from a private seller and
B) most importantly sell his car on his own.

I second the sell it yourself approach. He already knows that someone in the area is interested in a car just like his. I am sure he could advertise and possibly find this person and push out the middle-man/dealer and sell it himself.

Well, I decided to keep the car. I can live with the 5AT. The more I drive it, the more it seems to perform better (maybe it was just an adjustment period for someone who's never owned an automatic).

My saleswoman did her best to get me a good deal on trading in on a new 6MT but it was just not reasonable enough, so I'm sticking with the 5AT and will continue to drive it with my new-found enjoyment. AND, the money's already being stashed away for a "fun car" in a few years time — S2000.
