Used with 9,000 miles, or new, $2000 diff

Alright, about to put a deposit on a certified pre-owned SSM TSX, 5AT, no navi, with 9,000 miles and OEM spoiler.

The front left fender and driver door have dinds in them, and they are fixing everything before I pick it up free of charge. I got them down to $23,000. Plus, it comes with the 7yr/100,000 mi powertrain, etc.... warranty on top of the factory one.

They have several carbon gray ones and a few NHB hat fit exactly what I want and they are all new, and offering them for $24,995. What should I do? $25,000 is pushing it for a new car for me. I am 23, been working for a year, and moving up to Boston next March and will have an expensive rent to pay. Right now I live in Philly, and its not that bad.

Do I have them do all the work on the used one and take that, or forl up the extra money and get the new one. I am not partial to either color, and the used one already has a spoiler.

Plus, I hope I save money on gas. I drive a 2002 Ford Explorer Sport Trac, and it has a 19 or 20 gallon gas tank and gets about 400 miles per tank. How many miles should I expect to get out of one gas tank on the TSX? I don't like the idea of having to buy 92 for the car, would much rather buy 89 or something. Oh well, guess thats what you get for buying an Acura.

I was thinking the same thing but the extended warranty is about $1200 so that price isn't all that high.

The mileage you get is greatly dependent on how you drive. I'm going to have to do some conversions since I'm living in a metric country so bear with me for a second...
Worst case scenario, in the city I get about 450KM on 55L of gas (12L/100KM). If I'm on a long highway trip I can easily get 650KM on the same amount of fuel (8.4L/100KM). So in old-fashioned terms, that's about 28mpg hwy and 19.6mpg city.

Your truck was getting roughly 20mpg so it sounds like the TSX should be a little better but the economy might be offset by the cost of premium fuel.

You can get the price down a little more on the used one. Since it's non-navi and a Honda engine the warranty, although providing peace of mind, will probably never pay for itself. The spoiler only adds a little value.

Here's what I'd do (if you really care what I'd do): go to the dealer with a lower price, however low you decide within reason. Then make a case for that lower price - you probably won't need the warranty but you appreciate it. The car already has some mileage on it and you don't know how that person drove. If the spoiler becomes a sticking point tell him you don't even really need it and if that's one of his rationals for the price tell him he can just take it off (they usually won't since it's more hassle than it's worth). Never tell him you're willing to buy a new one- make it seem like this particular one is the one you want but you're not paying $23K.

Remember he doesn't make any money if he doesn't sell you a car. A little money in his pocket is better than none - and he'd still be doing okay if he sold it to you for $22K.

BTW, what dealership? I also live near Philly and bought from Ardmore Acura.

Hey,

Thanks for all the help. I checked out Ardmore Acura since I live in Manayunk. They wouldn't go any lower than $25,500 for a brand new one, and Sussman Acura was willing to go down to $24,995 for the same car.

Ardmore acura had a used light blue one, not the artic blue (personally, ugliest color they offer) and they want $24,000 for it.

I decided to go with Sussman's becasue they just were willing to deal down lower.

Alright, I will go back to them and ask for it at $22,000. If they reject me, then I will just walk away. I won't be getting a TSX, but oh well.

If someone was willing to sell me one with 10,000 miles, silver, black, or CG that had navi, for $24,000, I would write a check in a second. However, that seems like it will never happen.

Well, here goes nothing. I am going to call them on my lunch break hopefully.

Make sure you talk to the Sales Manager when you call. He's the one that will approve the final deal and usually is the most straightforward if he knows you're serious. When I bought mine I got one dealership's "best" price and then called several other area Acura dealers, asking for the sales mgr. each time. When I called Ardmore's mgr. (Greg Conover) he asked what I wanted to pay so that I would buy the car from his dealership. I told him and, $500 over invoice later, done deal.

Who wouldn't?? I work for Toyota and a gal just traded in an 04 TSX SSM NON NAVI and WE (the dealer) paid 21k for it.

My car books for 24k trade in and I have the NAV and 3k miles.....I would NOT sell it for that. I would give it to a dealer first.

I bought from Metro near the Philly airport. NEVER go there for service! It was by far the worst experienc I've ever had. Sussman is worlds better in terms of their service department. Good luck!

Well BGillette, I can obviously afford the 91 or 93 gas since I put out more $ for gas per week than any of the TSX drives on here. My Sport Trac takes about $50-$55 a week for gas, if not more. I was just hoping when I got a inline-4 that it would cut my fuel costs, not be the same as my current car, which is a lot bigger and more powerful.

Well, just talked to them, they won't go any lower thatn $23,000. I am going in there today. I am going to write back to them one more time, and maybe see if the can throw in foglights or something for free or at half price. If they do that, then I am sold. Now I am getting excited.

Good luck, make sure you don't get scammed by APR rates if you're financing.

Actually, the dealer is running a 3.9% rate on all certified pre-owned Acura's!!!! Not bad at all. If for some reason that falls through, the credit union that I belong to offes 4.29%, just called them yesterday.

They haven't written back to me about including the foglights or at least giving me a deal on them. Hopefully I will hear back soon.

Good luck! $23K really isn't a bad price, especially if you really want the car. That's a pretty good APR too. Don't sweat the gas costs it doesn't make that much of a difference to the wallet, especially when you factor in the feeling you get that you're feeding your car right!
