Are the US and Canadian stereos the same?

I am a Canadian with an 08 TSX with Navi and I am wondering if my stereo/HU is the same as the one in the US?

I ask because we Canadians don't get the XM radio as part of our package but, if it is as simple as connecting it, I'd like to get myself one. I realize I'd have to run the antenna, but the important thing is can I plug it into the HU and have it be recognized?

I'm not sure if it is that simple or if the unit itself or the software is different. I currently don't have a tab for XM or SAT on my audio touchscreen, but I was hoping the tab would appear if you plugged the XM receiver into the unit.

Any help and info is appreciated.

Thanks

I've read in a separate thread that if you disconnect the XM antenna/tuner from the non-NAVI HU in the American sedan (done behind the trunk lining, IIRC), the XM1/XM2 choices disappear from the HU. So....

Frankly, I use a Pioneer Inno XM tuner/recorder/MP3 player (think TiVO for XM) out of the car and love it. YMMV.

That is great to know - from a hope standpoint - thanks.

I was thinking about a portable solution as well, but the only time I would ever listen to it was driving so it made sense to have it integrated.
