Upstate NY to NJ

I currently live in upstate NY where I pay only 1400 a year for full coverage with Liberty Mutual. I may be getting a new job in NJ and was wondering what some of you guys are paying with full coverage. I moved out of NJ 6 months after graduating and its suckin me back in already along with tons of cash Im sure for my insurance. Thanks

About $1100/year for me, but you should just check yourself because everyone's is going to be different. Too many variables. Go to geico.com and plug in what you want and it'll give you a quote. My insurance is through Geico.

Agreed, but I would say try progressive.com as well, that way you can also get some comparison rates for other companies that in NJ to save you some time shopping.

NJ rates about like it would be if you were living in the Bronx or downtown. Its not cheap, but Luv's 1100 per year is pretty damn cheap! Also depends on what limits you carry, I wouldnt advise going low with those.

I would say try Pemco. I recently got quote from all major insurances (Allstate, Safeco, Esurance, State Farm...) and Pemco came up $300 cheaper for a year. (1200 for 2 cars/2 drivers full coverage w/ extras for a year)

This thread made me pull out my recent renewal with USAA. Our 07 TSX is 788 per year and our 05 Corvette is 582 per year for the same coverages. The discrepancy seems odd since the Vette is still worth more than the TSX (12K more according to KBB retail), but I think the loss rate for Corvettes is pretty low.

I'm also an old guy (I'm 49 and my wife 45) with what appear to be clean driving records (defensive driving and deferred adjudication have hidden several motorcycle tickets). Living in a rural area also helps.

After all these years car insurance rates are still a mystery to me sometimes.

I tried to get a quote from PEMCO yesterday. They say that they don't service NJ.

You probably won't have that many bigger insurance companies to choose from anyway, being that not many of them want to write policies in Jersey. Some are starting to come back....like recently Progressive and Geico. You may also want to try Liberty Mutual and I think State Farm is also here.

It sucks....we get screwed on insurance, and don't have much choice in companies because no one wants to insure here.

wow, is there a particular reason why they don't insure there?

Costs too much money because of all the scam artists and over-regulation. Years ago, they all started leaving the state and we had quite a crisis here. Little by little, they are starting to come back. Our rates are still sky-high, though, most expensive in the country if I'm not mistaken.

Here's a couple articles on it:

I pay 2,400 a yr in nyc. I would give anything for an upstate address. The cheapest insurnace is Virginia I believe. My friends GF(same age as me) only pays 200 every 6 months.

That seems to be the general consensus around here. But lets not take this off topic.

You should probably try NJM(New Jersey Manufacturers). But i think the only thing that you can get insured with them is by either working for the govt. or healthcare systems.
