Im a good driver and coast whenever i can. Yea, true, i accelerate hard SOMETIMES, but which TSX owner doesnt? Sadly, my mpg is only 20ish. i goto school every weekday and encounter many stop signs and red lights but i live in dallas and its highways offer me good opputunities to improve gas mileage on weekends. i cant figure out why my mpg is so low, though. is there any possibility that my car is just messed up because of a faulty break-in period? btw, i have an 06. i keep my hud on mpg mode and i make sure that my instant mpg stays above 30 for most of my driving yet my avg mpg always reads 20.0 to 20.4.

I've had my 06 for about 2 weeks now. I've put on almost 550 miles so far. I've tried for the most part following the break in period recommendations. I'd say 90% of my driving has been all city. My MPG is always since day 1 been right at 23.9-24.1 MPG. I dunno if this is good or not, but it is what it is

When you're a student that travels in the city and locally with too many traffic lights and stop signs like I encounter everyday, you pretty much end up with a Avg. MPG like 20ish. Mines pretty much going on and off around 20.5-20.7, 20.7 only being when I go on highways to go to work. =/ Something I have to deal with.

my 04 used to avg about 22-24 when it was new. now, on highway i average 32-34 (avg. 80mph) and 27-29 in city with pretty hard driving. just give it some time to adjust. this break in period is actually common on the TSX. most say about 8-10k.

Also check your tire pressure and make sure it is at least 32 psi in the front wheels and 30 psi in the back wheels.

how many miles did the car have on it when you bought it? mine had 60 i think, and i know for a fact that the salesman left it idling for a good 20 minutes while i was signing the paperwork (he must have forgotten or something). the MPG seemed stuck in the 19s for the first week i had the car, so i reset it and i now average about 22 or 23 in 80% city driving. bear in mind, this is the computer though, and it generally inflates the numbers.

wow, I don't baby my car or anything ('06 w/ approx. 1500 miles) and I average 25-26 in my daily driving. I drive about 2 mi. to work, but don't encounter much stop & go driving and only a few stop lights.

My mpg dropped 1-2 miles and it was annoying me until I noticed my tires were low. I filled them back to the proper psi and the mileage went back up.

Trade in for a Civic?

Seriously, I can't offer much help. My commute is mostly highway and I rarely get to drive local so I really don't know. Do you use A/C all the time?
There was a thread here earlier with tips on how to maximize gas mileage (tire pressure, windows up, turn off AC, coast in gear, etc.).

How often do you reset it?

I have mine set to reset on every refuel, so right afterwards it changes a lot faster and then as I get later in the tank it takes a lot more in one direction or the other to affect the average.

well, i've got close to 6,000 miles on the car now, and it's pretty much the same since we got it. in stop and go city traffic, we average under 20mpg. on the highways at 80...we avg about 33, at 70, we avg about 35 and at 60-65, we average about 38.

we use sunoco 91 octane gas. in jersey, most places only have 93 (not 91)....when we used sunoco 93, we got slightly worse gas mileage, but it was barely noticeable.

when we used hess, we got approx 2mpg less. we've used BP with about the same results, and we don't buy exxon/mobil so i d0nt know about it.

we've also used vallero, which is fairly new in NJ, and we've gotten as good as Sunoco, at almost 20 cents cheaper per gallon. haven't tried shell or citgo yet.
