I'm shocked that she won't even test drive cars while shopping for her own car (that's the fun part about buying a new car!). It sucks to deal with sales people while testing out the car, but isn't that why you bring someone along to keep the sales man occupied while you concentrate on the test drive??
I just hope she doesn't end up buying a 6MT and end up bored with it after a month and want to buy an AT instead.

When my Dad decided to teach me stick we went to the dealership with shitty cars. My dad asked to test drive a standard. He drove it around the block, pulled over and gave me the wheel. I then went about roasting that clutch for a half hour and got the idea. That was about all I needed to make it happen.

I learned on my Dad's old Accord... in winter (nuthin' like learning to downshift around icy corners and stopping by plowing into hefty snow banks). I got pulled over by a cop who was trying to figure out why a kid was driving in an industrial area on a Sunday evening... and so poorly! (No ticket, he looked like he was trying to hold back laughter when he found out I was learning stick). I learned real quick after that. And ever since, I've driven better in winter with a stick than with an auto!CL9er: You're a cool brother for letting your sis use your car after having just gotten her license. :-) I still say renting is the way to go for her to learn. Her car purchase reasoning just seems ... a little whimsical...
Good luck!
Well she is gonna learn on my project car. Good thing the car wont be on jacks until the beginning of the year. So she has until the end of the year to learn it. And if she wears out my clutch. I'm making her pay for an aftermarket one. Her first lesson is tomorrow. Lets hope she doesn't crash my car.
