Exclamation unlikely situation

So I recently purchased my tsx. My sister has been shopping around for a car. Her choices was IS250, BMW 335I, or a Mercedes C300. She was set on buying those. But with my parents disdain on euro cars. She could only get the IS250. She was gonna get the IS250 until she drove my tsx. Now she wants a tsx. Unfortunately the only CGP on the lot is a six speed. She doesn't know how to drive stick. So here's my situation. Should I teach my sister to drive stick so she can get the tsx. Or let her buy the IS250?

Tell her to get the IS250. My sister drives an IS250 AWD Auto and it's a perfect girl's car.

No matter how hard I try, I cannot seem to get comfortable in the IS driver's seat and I always feel cramped. It's like it's made for tiny girls.

My first car had manual transmission, which I did not know how to drive. My brother taught me. He must have been an excellant teacher as i now only own vehicles with manual transmission, Oh yes I am his younger sister.

^^^ Yea I don't get all that buy brand new luxury cars for their son's and daughters. Should you really do it just because you can? I guess my opinion differs from parents nowadays. Anyway back to topic where would you teach your sister to drive stick? because obvioulsy your tsx is not stick because she drove it. I think you become a better driver when you know how to drive stick, and its always sexy when a girl knows how to drive stick. But i guess you probably do not care about the sex appeal of your sister.

She can get a driving instructor to teach her properly, then let her decide if she wants to drive stick, or prefers the a/t ... in which case, why not just wait, for search for the car she wants (a TSX with a/t), if that's what she wants.

My first car was an MGB, so I just had my private driving instructor give me 2 hours or so of training. Took another few weeks to master it (in which I put a gouge on the car, ), but i drove stick for many years. I

Still. Ahem. I discourage anyone from buying something a) because it's available right now, for a short time, or b) that you don't want, because it's a bargain, over what you really want.

i'm another younger sister who was taught to drive stick by my older brother on his acura. in which case, i have only driven 2 manual integras and now my tsx since i was 16.
i'd say teach her to drive it. if thats what she truly wants. its always good to know how to shift gears anyway.
but of course if she'd rather have an automatic, i'd get the dealer to find her one. CGP isnt that hard to find in auto. tsx's are the easiest to dealer-trade too.

No, not at all. I don't think of manual vs. automatic as a gender thing. Determined more by personality type, and driving desire (fun, comfortable, more control, or more autopilot).

Not sure where I'll be, or doing, but I'll keep an eye out for MR. Plenty of yuppies locally have TSX', but I don't think I've seen a MR yet. Of course, I'm Mr. Stealth in all-too-common ASM. If you want to grab coffee (I'm a semi-pro cafe slacker) and talk TSX', I'm around.

let her buy the is250 AND teach her to drive stick. Trade off every so often. I used share my cars with my sister....it was fun to trade once in awhile.

Yeah she doesn't like any other color. She's persistant on getting a CGP TSX or an Obsidian IS250. She's leaning towards the tsx. Also now she's adamant on learning how to drive stick. So i'll have to teach her with my si. God I hope she doesn't wear out my clutch.

My family ain't rich. My parents just saved up money for us. We both got 140K once we turned 18. The money for the car is deducted from it. And the rest of the money we can only use for college or buying a house.

well im guess your location is why there is no other CGP around.... not too much in terms of choice on the island?

I'd say get her the TSX but maybe take a 2nd or 3rd choice color in an AT unless she WANTS to learn how to drive stick... then i'd say let her go for it but make sure she knows how tedious it can be day after day after day after day after day.... after day after day...

you get the point. you really have to love manuals if you want to drive it a lot... plus your highway system isn't as big as most other peoples so its more of an "around town" driving mindset.

MOST girls don't want to bother with driving a 6spd but if she wants to... cool.

if not then tell her to just pick another color.

I was never a fan of the CGP anyway.

I asked her why she wanted the CGP. Her reason was that her friends have an Obsidian IS250 and a Quarts Gray Audi A4. Kinda Stupid. I thought she wanted an automatic. Turns out she wants manual. It sucks that I have to do the test driving for her.

eeek.

good luck.

if it was me I'd probably tell my sister that shes getting a free tsx so the color shouldn't be as important as she's making it. if she likes a color of one the lot cool, but if its stick and you think shes gonna get sick of it in 3 months then i'd really try to talk her out of the 6 speed CGP.

Tell her to be original and get a PWP or maybe a GBM

I told her to get the PWP. But you know girls. And my parents aren't making things better. I told them to pick up the PWP for her. But they tell me that its her car. Its her choice. I've talking to her about getting the automatic. But she wants a 6 speed now. So I have to teach her how to drive stick now. I don't mind teaching her. But I have to teach her with my car. Which sucks. I hope she learns fast like my ex.

Well, your parents have a point ... it IS going to be her car. She's entitled to make a personal choice if it's to be her personal car for several years. Not lecturing, mind you, I just don't think you'll win the argument. She's a young lady with a passion ... there is no stronger force in the galaxy.

Something neither of you may've considered is, will she be driving in rush hour traffic, or morning/afternoon commute traffic? A stick is fun on a test drive, and a weekend getaway jaunt, but I hate-hate-hate driving a stick in stop 'n go or just lethargic or surge-and-delay traffic ... did I say I really hate it? I really hate it. I got my T' in a/t for that alone, not to mention other, more esoteric reasons.

if your parents are buying her a new 6spd tsx, why does she have to learn on yours? and why do you have to test drive?

just go get her that CGP 6spd and teach her on her own car.

She won't be in a lot of stop and go traffic. We really don't have that here.

Because my parents won't let her learn on a new car. I'm trying to find a beater so she doesn't have to learn on my car. As for test driving. Well my sister doesn't like dealing with the dealers. So I have to go with her and I have to drive the cars. I've already driven most of the cars she wanted to get.

Why don't you rent a stick-shift for a weekend and teach her on that? I'm sure being in Maui they have lots of car rental places, instead of buying a sh*tbox for her to learn and having to sell it after she's learned (or decided she hates stick!)

I'm shocked that she won't even test drive cars while shopping for her own car (that's the fun part about buying a new car!). It sucks to deal with sales people while testing out the car, but isn't that why you bring someone along to keep the sales man occupied while you concentrate on the test drive??

I just hope she doesn't end up buying a 6MT and end up bored with it after a month and want to buy an AT instead.

She wants the 6 speed because of me driving my manual. Also she doesn't really want a new car. My parents are forcing to find one. She needs to have one for work and she got her license recently. I've been letting her use my cars for the meantime.

Okay, then you REALLY need to rent a stick shift and give her (or buy her) some lessons. Just because she sees you driving a stick, doesn't mean she's going to like it. Also ... how will she feel grinding gears or lurching in her new, wonderful car? The "car honeymoon" could last only a day.
Also she doesn't really want a new car. My parents are forcing to find one.
If your parents are insisting on a new car, they're idiots. They can get a better deal, and a much longer warranty, on a CPO 2006 or 2007 model. Just as good as the 2008. Try this, price a new car, then price a 2006 used model and factor in about $1500 for the wrap warranty extension (you can buy a used car report on Consumer Reports, cheap; buy one for 2006, and another for 2007, it will give you recommended dealer prices based on mileage). I'll guarantee you it comes out cheaper ... unless the dealership has a 2007 they want to let go for super-cheap.

My parents will buy a new car. They don't care about the price. They know they can afford it. But when they do buy a car. It has to be a toyota or a honda. I tried getting them to buy other makes. But they won't budge. As for my sister grinding her car. Well she wont get her car until she learns stick shift.
