Two Questions: 1) My headlights 2) First Major Service

First question I had was, is

Is it possible that the HID's get knocked out of alignment by themselves. When I was on my way back to DFW from the Houston area Sunday night, I probably got flashed at least 5 or 6 times. I have never had that many people flash their lights at me in that short of time period. I only had a few duffel bags full of stuff in my back seat so I know that I wasn't weighted down directing the lights more upward.

Maybe I just got unlucky??
I may just ask them to look at it (if they don't already) when I go in for my service in not too long.

Secondly,

....does anyone recall how much their first "major" service cost? I was told last time that I was in for an oil change that the next time I would need my first major service. I'm going home this weekend to get it done. I've already have had a couple of more minor services, but apparently, this is a big one. My car will have about 43,000 miles on it.

I was just wanting to prepare myself in case it was something astronomical.

when you got flashed where you on flat ground. at certain angles HIDs are blinding. I doubt they got miss aligned that bad, maybe moved a little, just have them check just in case.

but on our cars i think people just arent use to how bright HIDs are and mistake it for hi-beams.

Did this only happen on that one night. Was there a cop in the area and you were getting warned about them.

People coming the opposite direction will sometimes warn of a speed trap ahead by flashing their high-beams. Usually in the day time. I doubt thats your case. I also doubt your lights are misaligned. Ignorant people like to flash people with HIDs because they think you have your brights on.

What service are you talking about? I think mine was $35 for 'A' and $129 for 'B1' haven't had anything else done yet.

I've already had those done. I think this one is the next one. I think I've had two, but maybe three services, so this is either the third or fourth service.

And that's interesting about the speed trap thing. To be honest, I've never heard of it.

The headlight thing is kinda an odd one, not question but issue in itself.
I installed JDM's last year and the drivers side one is rather misalligned, definately a little higher than the right side, but I haven't had a single person flash me yet.

As for the service, I just had a major one done at 96K kms (60K Miles) and my mechanic charged me $500CAD.

I too get flashed from time to time, but not often enough to lead me to believe that I'm out of allignment. The flashes are most likely from people who don't understand HIDs and think the brights are on. I tend to check mine against other cars in traffic as I drive. There's a very defined cut off point at the top of the illuminated area (for lack of a better description.) On most cars, that line falls on the rear of the vehicle around the middle of the license plate. It's just below the side view mirrors, and definitely below the rear glass. Might be something to check out next time you're driving at night.

Dealers always try to get me to come back for something else. I'm not saying all dealers are bad, but gather knowledge on caring for your car through a different source. It might be a good idea to look for or post a thread asking people to delineate their maintenance time-lines. I don't think a TSX would need major service unless something happens to it or until the mileage gets really, really high. Get a 2nd opinion. Actually, unless I have damages, I tell the dealers what to do to my car, not ask them what needs done.

Went to the dealer last week for an oil change and state inspection with 32k miles and he told me that it was time for the 30k major service. He told me it would cost 575.00. I passed on it for now, and need to shop around.

What exactly is included in this so-called 30Kmajor service. What year is your car? I go by the maintenance minder codes that show-up when the oil life is at 15%. (on the advice of my friend, the acura service manager). I am still have the original brake pads. They keep telling me new ones are not needed but will let me know. They do not try to sell unnecessary service. The only problem is the dealer is in Pa and I am in NC.

"Pollen and cabin filters..." are the same thing. There's an engine air cleaner filter, and the cabin air filter. Changing both yourself takes 15 mins or less.

TS_eXpeed, take a look at the 2004 manual (they're linked from a forum FAQ), there's a table of recommended servicing. Rather than trusting a service manager to tell you "what needs to be done," your OM and tell the service manager what you want done.

A few weeks ago a car came up from behind me, and I thought, "MAN, those beams are bright," and the car passed me and I was looking at another 1GEN TSX. So our lights are bright, even compared with other sedans with HIDs (and I see a lot of them in RTP). Turn our lights on facing a flat wall, you may see the left light is just a tad lower than the right (like a stair step _- ) it's done that way for a reason.

Flashing lights is a very common motorist warning to oncoming traffic of a speed trap. When you've driven longer, you'll pick up on some of these things. For those times when someone thinks your lights are too bright, just tap (not blast) the high beams. Generally people get the clue.

thanks for the correction david spaulding. I am bad-
Since the acura service manager is a good friend I tend to listen to his advice.

I just looked at the MID as the service minder just came up since my oil life hit 15%, and it said B1. I know I have already had B1 done before. If I recall correctly, I want to say it cost about $150 last time I had it done. Does this sound about right?

They told me it'l cost me about $560 at the dealer where i bought my car, that's crazy. so I shopped around and found another dealer about 20 miles away from where I stayed and they charged me about $260.
