Is it too expensive for you because you are paying for it and paying insurance or is it getting expensive for them??

Do they realize that insurance on a convertible, turbo-charged car for a 16 year old in a major city WITH TWO TICKETS ALREADY will be astronomically high?!?!

Give me a break. Ask them to get you a 2002 Honda Civic or similar like we all had to do!! It will save them and you in the future.

If they wanted to show you responsibility they would take away the car altogether and make you walk your ass to school.

Give him a break everyone. If hes lucky enough to have parents that buy him nice things that let it go. Its not for you to judge whether he deserves them.

Audi TT is not a good idea tho. Think about looking for for one with less mileage. Save up for a little maybe it will be better in the long run. Also think about the resale after you put some miles on it. Nobody will want it for free.

Brand new '06 TSX for '01 TT with 110k miles i bet the dealer is laughing at you right now for thinking of trading it. Have you done carfax on that Audi? with that kind of milage you should check see if its got a history of accidents.
Audi and VW reliability is always questionable, with 110k miles already on that TT you're going to make friends with the repair shop manager good luck.

...The TT is a really nice looking car but...seriously, that's crazy high mileage for an '01. Maybe ok if it was a Honda or Toyota but...with VW reliability (Or lack of)...??? I was looking at a Jetta GLI until I started hearing about things breaking, falling off or peeling off. I don't care if Audi is VW's luxury division. That doesn't mean they are built any better. The difference in car payments are going to be offset by the repair bills. Be sure to carry alot of duct tape. Jeez...Maybe you can try bawling like a baby they'll get you a Civic.

Look, consider yourself lucky your parents outright bought you a car.

Respect them and yourself and set the cruise control on the "I have two tickets" setting", and keep the TSX.

If your driving is as careless as it sounds, you will need the astounding safety features of the TSX in the near future anyway....

They've made attractive cars for as long as I can remember. Always good looking cars. I'm not convinced that they don't still make junk. Nice looking junk, though. Very high quality fit and finish, considering that it's junk. Really good handling, especially considering that it's junk. I still like the looks of that Audi Fox, and that LS100 had that Mercedes-look thing going.

I still see some BMWs and MBs from that era, even lots of beetles, and certainly some 911s, 912s, and 356s from a back then. no audis. hmmm.

if not i agree with u... a 14year old TSx will suffice.

I totally agree with you...as long as he/she is responsible they can get ANY car that I can afford. Else, they will get the hand-me down.

Acura should have an "over 21" policy on their car. How can any parent buy a brand-new TSX for their 16 year old?!!!

It's not about money! It's about teaching the kid to earn their precious items.

Yout parents must not know that you want a TT. I don't think they would rather you drive a sports car than a TSX. Plus, Audis/VWs have horrible reliability( I know from experiece).
Stick with the TSX if possible.

dont hate on us young'ns... while i may not be 16 im still only 18 but i feel like ive matured pretty quickly... ive had 2 tickets paid for both and i paid for my TL... just b/c a young kid is driving a nice car dont be quick to call them spoiled or ungrateful or anything like that... cuz some people like me earn it... or a parent might buy it for their kid for being a great student getting accepted into a good college, or for any other reason that may merit a reward in their eyes... anyway, i do think that being granted a privlege such as a brand new car should come with consequences for speeding or screwing up in any sense... if i were this kids parents id just start makin him kick in insurance payments/car payments, and then let him enjoy speeding in the tsx and abusing the privlege and paying for it... (well thats how it works in my house anyways haha) though i got one questionable speeding ticket (dont wanna get into details) and havent been in trouble since... you can learn a lot from working and going to school and paying for your own luxuries... while im in no way shape or form deprived by any means, i feel like ive been taught some pretty valuable lessons about earning and saving and appreciating what i have... just came to break the stereotype some of you guys may have about ALL younger kids.. .yes i do know most of us are out of control .. just had to testify for the few who have it together haha... enjoy the long post.. now back to my tl forums... haha

Sorry! But I have to say your parents are idiots if they think you're going to slow down or be more responsible in a TT.

I doubt that. San Antonio is one of the premiere police forces in Texas (As in , they can get the latest vehicle updates quickly because of location of the supply). They have a police vehicle supply headquarters located there.

An Audi TT will cost you more in tickets and possibly out of warranty repairs.

Tt

Most TT's will smoke a TSX.

225 or 250 HP versus 205 with no torque.

do the math.

For those who are defending him, I think the majority is baffled by the logic that buying another car (a faster one) would prevent one from speeding. It just doesn't make any sense! Being a teenager, the crowd will have a field day with absurd posts, but perhaps he can take the criticism and learn from it. Good luck!

You clearly don't know shit. I recommend you research the vehicles in question before contributing next time.

Well, a TT 225 does 0-60 in the lower to mid 6 second range, with a 1/4 mile in the 14's.

Of course, the TSX would do well against a TT 180.

Yes, but there was no 250hp TT in 2001. The 225hp model as a coupe was only tested at about 7 sec by Edmunds. A 2006 TSX 6MT with a halfway decent driver can get 7 secs pretty easily. Hell, there are 2004 TSX 6MTs posting up 0-60 and quarter mile times in the very low 7 sec and 15 sec ranges, respectively. The TT is not going to blow a TSX away. Walk away, maybe, but certainly not blow away.

Hmmm, dunno about Edmunds as a performance figure source.

Audi actually claims 6.2 seconds for the 225 (at least in quattro form), and usually VW/Audi's published claims are conservative (for instance they claim only a quite reasonable 8.1 seconds for the TT 180).

http://www.audiusa.com/features_spec...specifications

And there certainly is no comparing the torque spec:

207 lb-ft @ 2200-5500 rpm

Of course you're right about the 250, but I don't put the two cars anywhere in the same league. One is a luxury sport sedan and the other is high performance roadster.

Are you sure from Toronto? I saw more 16 yr old kids driving M3, SLK than TSX in Toronto.

If you like speeding, not matter what car to get, you are still going to get ticket again! I think almost every car in the market is still able to make you drive over the speed limit. When I was 17, my 2 tickets were from a Ford Tempo!

But, actually TT may help since it will be in the shop more than in your garage.
