TSX vs IS250

i just went to Don Valley North Lexus Toyota (for those who lives in toronto) i checked out the IS250. To be honest, in terms of style IMO, the IS looks so much more aggressive so if i was to choose solely based on the exterior looks, i would 100% go for IS250. But then, i've also see the prices for the packages and all that option stuff, the stuff that are included in the TSX aren't standard for the IS250, which i find stupid. Such as HID i dunno why they took away that cos it was standard for IS300, you are forced to pay 9500 CAD extra for the sports packages in order to get the HID (correct me if i'm wrong please, maybe i missed something on the canadian site (US site doesn't have new IS pricing yet), I know the leather in TSX isn't the best leather not even close, the standard IS only comes in cloth and if you choose leather, u have to pay 5k CAD for the package (the cheapest package) of course u get other stuff. And standard wheels for IS250 is P205/55R16 that's wrong. Oh yea and the packages force you to get the woodgrain trim unless you go for sports package which makes the car MSRP 47,500

The interior i went into was very nicely done and i love that engine start button , well its Lexus so it should be nicely done, pretty roomy i would say, maybe i'm only 5'6 tall. It does come with shift paddle and triptronic shift gearbox and fog lights though. The trunk is pretty small though.

So in conclusion, i wouldn't buy the IS250 + package (i might as well go for BMW or mercedez) i was going to consider the basic AT IS250 (MSRP 37,900 CAD) but the fact that it doesn't come with HID and all the standards in the TSX are just not worth it IMO you are pretty much paying alot for the brand, for a japanese car.

Here's my review for the day at work being bored again not to start any flame i just wanna share my thoughts with you guys. If any of the info i mentioned was incorrect please feel free to correct me

Nice compro. But, are you basically saying that lack of HIDs on base model is the deal killer for you?

well the HID, 17' wheels, leather seats, power seats, sunroof, side signals, around the same HP (although IS has more torque) etc are the main deal killers for me.

lol, at MSRP 47,500, I'd rather spend the money on a G35 Coupe (even though I'm not terribly fond of it) for around 52,500 OTD.

Way too expensive IMO. $44,200 equipped like a TSX. I don't like RWD that much.

Where's the Navi option?

Is the coupe $20K more than the sedan? Before I bought the TSX I was given $32k for a brand new G35 4dr 6 mo ago.

The main kicker for me between the is300 and the TSx was the nav system. the other stuff was just icing.

If you endup go for a 4 cylinder MB than good luck! and sure you will find that the IS is not over price at all. And what's wrong with a Japanese car?

So let's see, comparing MSRP of IS250AWD with the Lux/Navi Package at $53,700 and a decked out G35 Coupe with all the options at $53,435.00. No idea how somone can justify that, but I would imagine there would be tons of buyers, esp. in the Markham/Richmond Hill/Unionville area.

HOW!!! How is sport package 10,000 dollars? WTF! All I expected was sport suspension and rims maybe brakes for 2000.

Not heated seats, fan in seats, rain sensing wipers. Wow! I think Lexus got confused with the word sport and the word luxury.

I guess Lexus is the new BMW!

Even BMW has standard power seats now. They added all these options standard to compete. And lexus takes them away to compete?

Yeah, same bullsh*t as the Canadian pricing of the S2000:

S2000 USA MSRP $33,150 USD
S2000 Canadian SMRP $49,800 CDN

A difference of 50.22%, now that is :wtf:

i may just swing by don valley lexus after work today to check it out...

ya, base is250 seems reasonable on paper, then when you look at a base live, it's like, "damn, why am i paying this much again?"

friend took a look at a 02 is300 5at awhile ago at terrace gate acura. excellent condition (compared to the ones at don valley), low km's, very clean. but, what autotrader didn't say was that it was base, and it didn't have leather. when we took a look at it, we were like, "wtf? no point buying a lexus if it doesnt at least have leather."

WTF is with these $10,000 packages Does BMW even have packages that expensive.

I'm going to bitch slap the first person to say the IS250 "only" starts at $37,900 and is a better value than the TSX.

haha you know i'm joking....

so another conclusion, i'm going for TSX doesn't matter 05 or 06 still TSX, unless they lower the price for IS250 by alot or suddenly include all those features that are missing compare to those in TSX. I dun think Lexus is smart enough for that though......

If I was shopping for a car right now I would easily chose the 06TSX over the IS250, price being a factor.

The IS is a nice car, but ouch on pricing. I was afraid they would go BMW like and have everything as a option or package. God, that's why I love Acuras. Everything is standard.

I was able to see them this past weekend and the interior is gorgeous, but there is no rear leg/foot room. I think it is even smaller than the current one in the back. The TSX and 3 Series seemed spacious in comparison.

According to those american prices an IS250 at with sport is about $36k. Thats more than a G35 and approaching M35 range.

what a rip, lexus thinks they're the sh*t now. to me, it's still just a luxury Toyota. i know that we drive luxury hondas, but at least for the TSX and TL you get everything standard even navi for both the TSX and TL for under $36K. Thats a deal. For $36K i'd rather drive a G35, TL, BMW 325, or loaded new VW passat.

I'm still strongly considering an is350 with only the sport package which gives me all the goodies I want. It would be a nice step up in power from the tsx!

Lexus Announces Pricing on 2006 IS 250 and IS 350 Sport Sedans

Lexus announced pricing today for the 2006 IS 250 and IS 350 luxury sport sedans. With contemporary, innovative styling, best-in-class luxury features and segment-leading performance, the all-new IS will also represent the best value in the near luxury automotive segment.

The new IS incorporates a number of standard features available only as options on many competitive vehicles, including leather-trimmed interior, power moonroof and SmartAccess with push-button start. In addition, driver and front passenger 10-way power seats are also standard on all IS models.

"The mission of the new IS was to be best in its class in terms of styling, performance and outstanding value," said Bob Carter, Lexus group vice president and general manager. "We improved upon a great car with significant enhancements in performance, fuel mileage, lower emissions and a level of luxury only found in a Lexus."

Manufacturers suggested retail price (MSRP) is $29,990 for the IS 250 rear-wheel drive with the six-speed manual transmission. The 2006 IS 250 includes $5,000 of additional standard equipment with only a $255 increase over the previous model. The IS 250 rear-wheel drive with six-speed sequential automatic transmission MSRP is $31,160 and includes Formula One-inspired steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters. The IS 250 all-wheel drive MSRP is $34,285 and, in addition to the above features, includes a perforated leather-trimmed interior upgrade with heated and ventilated front seats and wood trim.
The IS 350, the fastest sport sedan in the near luxury car segment, MSRP is $35,440. Its highly tuned 3.5-liter engine delivers a best-in-class 306 horsepower and 277 lb.-ft. of torque, resulting in the quickest zero-to-60 mph time of any competitor sport sedan.

The new IS exterior showcases additional standard features including projector beam headlamps, 17-inch aluminum alloy wheels, dual exhaust, LED tail lamps and brake lamps, and nighttime side-mirror puddle lamps that activate as you approach the car. Ten exterior colors are available and are matched with a choice of three interior colors.

The IS has an impressive lineup of standard interior features such as a 13-speaker premium audio system with an in-dash, six-disc CD changer and an auxiliary input for iPods or MP3 players, separate driver and passenger climate controls, HomeLink®, direct tire-pressure monitor, outboard rear-seat pretensioner seatbelts, steering wheel audio controls and Optitron gauges with personalized shift and speed settings.

Several innovations highlight the IS sport sedans' technical features. A new twin-chamber front-passenger airbag is designed to help manage impact energy by dispersing the impact of the accident between the head and shoulders. It is a part of the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) featuring eight standard airbags, including driver and front passenger knee airbags, front and rear side curtain airbags, front-seat-mounted side airbags and front passenger airbags.

The IS sport sedans' exceptional performance characteristics begin with two new direct-injection V6 power plants with Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i) and dual exhaust. Mated to either a manual or automatic six-speed transmission, the 2.5-liter V6 shows considerable improvement in fuel economy versus the last generation IS 300. The robust 3.5-liter V6, mated to the sequential six-speed paddle-shift automatic transmission, carves out class-leading performance with a zero-to-60 time of 5.3 seconds.

The integration of these new technologies contributes to segment-leading efficiency with the IS 350 obtaining an EPA-estimated combined fuel consumption rating of 24 mpg (21 mpg city/28 mpg highway); the IS 250 coming in with an estimated combined 27 mpg (24 mpg city/32 mpg highway) for the automatic model and an estimated combined 23 mpg (20 mpg/29 mpg highway) for the manual transmission; and the IS 250 AWD attaining an estimated combined 25 mpg (22 mpg city/28 mpg highway). All 2006 IS models carry the EPA's Ultra-Low Emission Vehicle II (ULEV II) certification.

All IS models come standard with electronic vehicle stability control, a feature which helps prevent loss of traction in a turn. While the IS 250 features Lexus' sophisticated Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), the IS 350 comes standard with Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM), one of the most advanced active safety systems in the world. Operating in a rapid, smooth fashion, VDIM is less overt than other stability-control systems, allowing the driver to approach the sport sedan's handling limits before it transparently applies subtle adjustments to the throttle, brake and steering system to help the driver maintain vehicle control.

The latest, most advanced Lexus Navigation System will be offered as an option in the new IS with a higher-resolution Video Graphics Array (VGA) screen. Sharper graphics with 3-D shadow effects compliment enhanced color definition and a 32,000-color palate. The new fifth-generation navigation system adds voice-recognition destination input, freeway exit-lane guidance and a route-trace capability. Spanish has been added to the voice-prompt feature along with English and French when the user selects their language preference at system start-up.
The all-new IS 250 and IS 350 will be in Lexus dealer showrooms on October 14.

I'm going to bitch slap the first person to say the IS250 "only" starts at $37,900 and is a better value than the TSX.

They really did push the price in Canada. I hope they sell as many IS250 and IS350 as theey did IS300. The TSX shines relatie to the IS250 when you look at what you get for what you pay.

I think that Lexus is over-confident with the new IS. They think they are in the same league as BMW or MB but in actuality they are just not quite there yet...

I test drove the IS250 today (getting back on topic) and it was an outstanding car. It looks great, it's refined, and uses better interior materials than the TSX (especially the bird-eye maple). I can also say there's no way I'd buy one.

The IS250 is lacking in several areas:

1. Small cabin and interior dimensions
2. No satellite radio
3. Very slug-like off the line
4. A little soft in general
5. Smaller nav screen
6. Inferior nav system and technology

The above shortcomings are what's important to me, so I can understand if some of you don't care about the nav system or satellite radio. But it also speaks about the car on a more general level, more like how good is this car relative to the market and what does Lexus have to offer here. There's a lot to offer but the cost is way too high. The car I drove can be had for the bargain price of about $39k. They think (Lexus has completely botched this launch) that's what this car MSRPs for. The information is sketchy and the dealership didn't know if everything was finalized yet. Is it worth $10k more than my Acura? Sure I'll miss things like the backup camera, start button, ventilated seats (nice!), and birds-eye maple trim, but I'll get over it.

Lexus is smoking crack with these prices and it has nothing to do with where the competition is priced or what they have to offer. These prices are just way out of line.

i did see a sales guy driving one on the road today, i saw it in silver, from the back it looks like the new sonata. i mean if they would make the Lexus price more reasonable like Acura and Infiniti I would consider the IS250.
