The TSX has a bad sound system

I really haven't tried the radio in the TSX, but when I did today since I got bored of listening to my cds, the radio signal and reception are very weak and not clear at all in the TSX. It was a sunny day today too.

Does anyone know why? The audio systems on the 6th gen accord had better clarity, which shouldn't be the case, since this is an Acura car.

Mine is top notch.

I am in outside sales, so I travel alot, and compared to my last cars the TSX holds a signal cleanly further out than any other car I have had.

Mine has decent reception. And power is ok. I'd say clarity is lacking.

I think it sucks for music reproduction then again I have a $50k+ system in my house, for car audio(which is an impossibility- IMO) its not bad. Break in was horrible, it took about 1500 miles of constant use before there was any life in the midrange and the bass started to tighten up and sound kind of natural. The high's just forget it, they image so low and lifelessly its almost disturbing.

All of that being said I had a system in a previous car that had a sound system worth more then the TSX at full MSRP(this system was for SQ not SPL) and I had similar complaints of that system. At which point I became painfully aware that car audio- while a good idea- is nothing more then just a good idea.

Hey tireguy, stop bragging... My home system is worth more than my car as well ;-)

I tried using some Siltech G5 LS cables from the components to the amp.... what a difference.... lol

On the other hand, at this length of speaker cables, my car just doubled in price ;-)

Just kidding oubviously...

In my opinion, the tuner is average at best, the CD playback is nice for a car.... On the other hand, the speakers are muddy and there's a lot of harmonic resonance...

topic is a little misleading. are we talking about the reception or the sound quality?

reception is crap for sure.

replacing the 2 front door speakers makes a nice improvement in sound quality (supposedly).

It must vary from place to place because my reception is just fine. In fact, it's probably better than the reception on the 2002 TL that we have.

Hey us audiogon'ers have to stick together

Congratulations on the Siltech's I have used them a few times and they are very good, one of the few cables I could live with in my system. Though I am still really hot on the Jena Labs cables I am using.

The sun makes no diff in radio reception. The only thing that might affect it is metallic tint.

FM reception is crap in the Chicago area. No matter the weather or proximity to powerlines, there is always a faint crackling sound on FM stations. I can pull them all in great, but they are never crystal clear.

On the other hand, CD's and AM radio are crystal clear. In my mind, the FM antenna or something is not right.

The whole audio system is pretty weak... I bought my TSX 3 weeks ago and I find the sound system to be garbage for what the dealer claimed. The rear speaker dissort big time when u put a bass track at higher than 30 levels.

I don't know about now, but in the past, Honda receivers have always been Alpine. Not sure about the speakers, but I would assume that they are also from Alpine.

For a stock system the TSX's stereo is above average, The only thing i added was a sub.

#1 shouldnt this be the in the audio forum?

#2 I have pretty shitty reception and I live in the chicago area.. however.. I have a problem which I just havent had time to troubleshoot... Ever since I had my amp/sub installed my FM reception has gone to shit. I have verified with the installer they did not break into the remote lead for the frm amplifier in the rear pillar...

Just wondering if you have an amp or not...

The name of the thread sounds pretty negative and misleading.

As for the TSX's sound system, I would say its decent, not as good as my old Infiniti I30's BOSE system, but the TSX sound system is good enough for me. Yes, there is static and such on the FM dial, but I think it has to do more with the reception of the radio stations in Chicago. When I goto St. Louis or Columbus the reception seems to be good and not as much static.

However, I don't listen to FM as much, sometimes B96.3FM. Most FM stations around here is trash nowadays ever since Energy 92.7FM left the airwaves in early 2003.

I listen to AM more now and its very clear! 790 WBBM and 890 WLS news radio.

Yes the headunits on the Accords are Alpines and i remember reading on Honda-tech that the speakers are Pioneers. This is based on the last gen Accord so im not sure if Honda sticked with them for the 6th gen and for the TSX.

persoanlly, i think the stock speakers on my accord sound way better than any of my friend's cars (toyota, nissan...) with stock speakers...

i don't think stock system is bad. AM reception (660, 1010) is very clear. no clipping, hissing, or vibrating in cd mode (volume halfway from max).

I am amazed at all the comments about how bad the sound quality is.

I have to say that off all the cars I have had (and brother and mom&dad for that matter) the TSX has the best sounding stock system I have had.

The Bose in the old TL's is a joke. The Bose in a Corvette is a joke. My Wifes RX330 doesn't sound as good. The Mach 460 in my Mustang isn't close.....

I may not have had the most expensive cars, but in this price range I think the radio it pretty damn good.

In fact, in this price range, I would say the system sounds better than most everythng else I have heard in a car under $40K.

I get great reception. Overall I think the system in the tsx is pretty good for a stock system.

Ditto with that.

With my previous cars, I've always looked into upgrading the audio system. But with the TSX, I have no desire to do anything with the audio system. It could also be the fact that I don't really care anymore. I have upgraded system in my Prelude, but lately I found myself turning the volume so low that I can hardly hear anything while I'm driving.
