TSX or G35

Am I the only one here who thinks both cars are really nice looking? The exterior of the G35 is really classy, and both the coupe and sedan are beautiful. Likewise, I LOVE the way my TSX looks.
The interior of the G35 leaves a lot to be desired, but that is another issue.

AWD G35 announced...

The G35 competes with the TL. And now that the AWD G35 is announced its even more obvious that the G does not compete with the TSX.
I'm guessing a AWD G will cost in the 35 - 37K range US and about close to 50K CAD which puts it well out of the TSX price range.
It does bother me that Infiniti/Nissan seems to be pulling out all the stops and Honda just sits idly by while they grab more and more market share. Wake up Honda where our AWD/RWD sedan with way too much power ???

PS - did anybody notice that in the Automobile Magazine article which placed the TSX #1, they got a 0-6 time of 8.1 fro the Acura and 5.6 for the G35. That G is freakin' fast!

You make a good point Jaeger. I personally was not looking to spend more than about 35K CAD so the TSX, Accord EX V6, M6 and Nissan Altima was where I was looking. Everyone will have a different interpretation of what car falls into a certain class so this can't be defined per se. But I'm sure if you were to ask the head of Acura NA what cars the TSX competes with the G35 will not be one of them and this is further evidenced by the fact that it is never mentioned in an Acura press release. nor was present at the early ride and drives. (Then again neither was the 325
Was that G35 a 6MT? or did it even mention anything?

They don't come right out and say (it's actually a very poorly-written article with nearly zero comparative analysis at all), but they make mention of the fact that with the 6sp. you can 'get more out of the engine' so it's a safe guess they tested the stick. The TSX was definitely the 6 sp.

Have you bought the car yet? Or have you made up your decision? If I have the extra money, I'll get the G35 coupe 6MT. It's sexy on the outside, and such a hoot to drive! I'll then learn to live with the interior...

Have you read Automobile Magazine's October issue, the "$30 Peronality Test" ? 12 sport sedans in this price range in a head-to-head test. Your answer is contained in the article.
Ratings:
1. Acura TSX
2. BMW 325i
3. Infiniti G35
etc, etc

it's called a "sucker car". they have one of them on the lot at that price and they're not going to sell it to you... instead they're going to use it to lure all the "suckers" in.

By the way, I came across a late 2002 issue of C&D (October, I think) that has a couple of spy shots of the TSX undergoing testing. The details in the article were right on with the production vehicle and they even mention that no V6 is planned. If anybody is interested, I can scan and e-mail the article (can I post images on the forum?).

So I began looking at the TSX. I had my mind set on the TSX until my brother said I should look at the G35 again (I looked at one when they first became available but wasn't really in the market at that time). Considering the extra room, the G35 is better suited for my family's needs and was worth the extra money. I still like the TSX though.

When I totalled it in '00, the insurance settlement was more than I paid for the car.

I think any rational person can agree that the G35 and TSX are pretty much the best cars in their category. If you have the extra money and want the performance of RWD - get the G35. If you want to pinch some pennies and get a killer car for around 27K - no car comes close to the overall package of the TSX.
The TL will be very nice when it comes out but it will still be FWD. You will get an awesome interior but you won't get the VQ engine, ahhh the VQ - rated 10 best for like 8 years in a row now. It may be more $$ in some regards when compared to the G but you will also get a nicer interior. Pros and Cons on both sides.
Hooray for my first post!!

G35 is faster than the TSX. so fucking what. unless you're dragracing everyday... I don't see how the relatively small difference in speed could justify spending the extra $6,000-$10,000.

My decision to get the G35 had nothing to do with speed. It came down to which car would be more practical as a family car (the extra speed is just an added bonus).
I already had my mine set on a TSX 6-speed with navi when I realized that a fully-loaded G35 6MT sedan would only be about another $70/month (about $4000 more than what I could have gotten a TSX for -- $500 over invoice w/2.9% financing). If you were considering both cars, wouldn't you spend the extra $70/month for the added room performance?
My wife preferred the styling of the G35 over the TSX too. She felt that the TSX was a bit too plain and ordinary. I, on the other hand, like both cars (there are things I like and dislike on both cars).
I'm really enjoying my G35 but I know I would have been happy with the TSX too.

I don't agree with that. If that "suckers" car is what anyone is looking for in terms of options and he doesn't care much about color, then in many cases it's a nice deal. I helped a friend buy a 626 couple years ago that way. The price was $600 below invoice. We were at the same dealer 2 weeks before and offered them invoice on the same car specs but no go. They had the ad in Saturday's paper and we were there at the time they opened. No negotiation was needed. We were even able to get a different color other than the white one that was supposed to be listed for the "suckers" car.

Just test drove the G35 and the TSX over the weekend. I must say I was impressed with both cars, however I couldn't get over the hypersensitive brake pedal on the G35. merely resting your foot on it caused the car to brake excessively. My GF test drove it first, after nearly blowing chunks from the jerks, i tried to drive it smoothly, even after putting all of my effort into it, i still couldn't smooth out the stopping. Maybe it was just the car I happened to drive since it was their test drive car. i did like the interior of the G35 though, i felt enveloped which was nice.
TSX was great too though, they had a CG auto w/no nav just sitting there for me to try, too bad they don't make the arctic blue with a lighter interior, those black interiors just get too hot down here in SD. I was impressed with the pick up on it, sure it didn't compare to the V6 on the G35 but it did compare nicely with the V6 i have in my Jetta right now. All in all I am very tempted to get the TSX, i just hate paying MSRP for a car.

That aside, speed is not the major issue alone. Vehicle control is. If I were in an emergency or even certain non-emergency maneuvers I would want to be in the G35 over the TSX. Simpy put the understeer issues of the TSX can and will put you in a bad position. The G35 does not have this issue. The cost difference is about safety and control.
And yes I have driven both cars for over an hour each. I tried the same high speed (40+ MPH) turns and the TSX pushed out every time making the turn dangerous (Thank goodness I was in a controlled enviroment with no traffic).

If you live in a warm climate then this is obviously not a valid point.
