TSX and fuel grade

Anyone have experience running mid-grade fuel or even regular in the TSX? Just curious since I have heard that decreased performance is obvious with TL, but maybe not with TSX. Is this true?

I recently put 5 gals. of 93 octane fuel in the tank from a small (two pumps, if I recall correctly) independent station (it was more a convenience store) while on a trip and there was a noticeable decrease in power and pickup. When I got back home, I filled from Citgo from a local station and the power returned. I am convinced that the independent fuel must have been something other than 93 octane. I also believe that a small, independent station is more likely to have the wrong fuel in a tank -- either by accident or intent.

It is my understanding that the TSX has a knock (pre-ignition) sensor that will retard the spark timing if pre-ignition occurs; reducing the stress on the values as well as any blowback. Any reduction in spark timing == a reduction in power. I would recommend sticking with at least 91 octane. Everything considered, it might be less costly than running regular grade.

There's a 5 page thread on this subject here: https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17362

Let's keep the chat going in that thread instead of this new one.
