TSX, expensive or cheap
TSX, expensive or cheap
What do you think is the TSX an expensive car or a cheap car. I purchased it because it was a cheapest car that filled my criteria of a car - and it did so quite well. So I always think of the TSX as a cheap car, but I see a lot of folks saying its expensive... What are your thoughts? Feel free to post your reasoning if you want, I am curious.
Cheap.
For my money, the TSX is wonderful. It's an incredible value for what you get. Comparably equipped cars run $5,000 higher (sometimes even more.) Granted, the car isn't perfect...but no car is. As far as I'm concerned, for the features, engine, handling, looks, and luxury nameplate, there's no better value than the TSX.

+ 1I came from a 91 Integra that cost me $15,300 brand new. My wife's Civic was $14K. We were shopping for a car in the $20K-$22K range. So, with that in mind, I consider it expensive since we "streached" a little to buy it.
Cheap? Expensive? Relative to what?
I think most of us would agree $30K is a lot of money.
But for a car, $30K isn't that much at all.
Although my friend can't possibly imagine why I would spend "double" what it costs for a Civic LX.
But for me, I don't think a better deal can be had than a TSX when comparing features/fun vs money.

Hmmm....last I heard it was selling for that price....but even if you did pay $30k, what car that is equivalent to the TSX does cost $27k?
I dont get why people would vote the car is "cheap". Cheap to me means little value, poor craftsmanship and low grade materials used in making the product. None of which the TSX shares...
And if people think that $30K for a car is cheap, why the hell did you buy it if you could afford more? I just dont get that logic. If I could easly afford a $50K+ car, I would never have even considered the TSX.
The Kia Rio, Chevy Aveo and Hyundai Accent are cheap cars that meet the critera above...

There really isn't any other car in it's class (entry level luxury 4 cyclinder naturally aspirated FWD sedan).
It's kind of in a class of its own.
I would say the TSX's closest competitors are Audi A4 (FWD/AWD 2.0T) and Subaru Legacy (AWD 2.5).
Cheap/expensive compared to what? If you are living in poverty and have nothing to eat, a TSX is prohibitively expensive! On the other hand, if you are Warren Buffet you could buy a new one every hour and still find the TSX cheap! It's all relative, like so many other things.
My wife and I make good money and have everything we want or need. I suppose I could afford a car costing 50-60K, but to what end? I want a safe and comfortable car with refinement and some extras. For me, the TSX is neither cheap, nor expensive. The TSX is just right, and thank God I have the wherewithal to make that statement.

Instead of making statements like this all the time, why don't you just come down here and buy it cheaper? you complain about everyone else complainging about the same thing you are complaining about... in my humble opinion.

But TL may even be 'cheaper' now that one dealer is offering me a new TL auto & nav for about $2k more than TSX.

you got incredible deal then
my friend got 34K TL non nav....i got 27850 non nav
both are drive out price with everything paid + few free gifts
so......you are pretty much getting a deal of the century
get it and run.....
I don't think TSX is the best value btw.....i think it's just about right
Accord V6 might be cheap imo
compare to the price.....i'd never get TL.......i'll get G35 coupe instead...

yes.....but i think G35 looks better than TL......and have more power + it's a coupe
The reason i choose TSX over Accord is it looks better....i can live with 200 hp.....it's an Acura....HID
sport package G35 coupe 36K drive out with everything paid.....
would never get TL with that price compare to 34K TL....

I don't want to be an antagonist, but how can an overpriced car also be a good deal value wise? In relation to other similar cars that are "overpriced"? I don't think a car is overpriced if it is incrementally more expensive than another car, but also has incrememntally more, such as bigger engine, more space, more features, etc...I don't understand the view that the TSX is a great value, and therefore relatively "cheap" compared to it competitors, but the TL is overpriced? I think the TL is very competitively priced in its segment, especially when you start equipping cars to its level, just like you point out above.
I think maybe what your saying is that you wouldn't pay 35k for ANY new car, right? At that point for you it is simply opulance...

The closest competitor when comparing equal cars though would be a GLI/2.0T. It has the same FWD 2.0T as the Audi and can be purchased with the same options as a TSX (except bluetooth) for about the same price or even $2000-2500 less if you go for the 2.0T.
Audi doesnt allow you to purchase their FWD model with comparable options to a TSX unless you opt for the Quattro..and then its alot more money.
Edmunds gave the edge to the GLI over the TSX in their review and it looks like C&D gave the edge to the TSX over the GLI for "best sport sedan". So it looks like these two cars are extremely competitive and both great value for what you get.

Honestly speaking, I can't never justify for a real need of having a 6-cylinder car.

spending my life in city driving, this is the perfect 4-cyl imo. also the almost perfect chassis. acura just needs to incrementally offer better upgraded/gadgets, suspension and tire/options, small hp increases, and improve QC until the 2nd gen.

. If your friend told you they bought a $3,000 computer with all the bells and whistles, you would think "damn, that's an expensive, overpriced computer compared to my $700 Dell" . Even if the $3,000 computer comes with the newest graphics card, processor, 3 gigs of ram, or whatever to justify the price tag, it's still an expensive, overpriced computer.
