Transmission Fluid Question

Hey guys!

Just wondering at what mileage your MM code for the transmission fluid came on? I am currently at 51k miles, and I have yet to see it. My fluid appears to be kind of dark, but I don't know if I should go ahead and replace, or if I should just wait for the MM to tell me it's time to change it.

Thanks much!

As nj2pa2nc said, it should come on around 60k miles. I could be wrong on this but I don't think the dealers does the 3 drain and fill when you ask them for this service.

I usually drain and fill it every 30k miles so I don't have to do that 3 times in a row deal. I've done this for years and knock on wood, the transmissions have been problem-free (even our 6th gen Accord which was known for transmission issues).

I change mine every 30,000k. Waiting until 60,000 miles seams a little long to me. You should be getting close to "A3" or "B3" maint reminder if you have the 06-08 TSX (the "3" is for tranny oil change).

You could be waiting along time. The MM in our 07 tripped the change fluid code at around 100K miles. It's very dependant on how you drive the car, and since my wife does virtually all highway miles, it's no surprise that it didn't trip till 100K. The change interval for the 04 and 05 models (which don't have the maintenance minder) is 120K I think, so 100K is reasonable. Sooner won't hurt, though 51K seems kind of early to me. You don't mention if your transmission is AT or MT, (though I'm guessing AT) but it doesn't matter. The recommended change interval is the same for both.

the first time the code (3) for transmission fluid on my tsx was at 125K miles. Since I had it done at 110K miles the dealer told me it was not needed again. This is MT

My manual (05 AT) says 60k, then every 30 after that. I had a tranny problem with my 02 civic so im gonna keep up on this car. If you do the 3x flush fill method, is a single drain and fill good every 30k or should the 3x flush/fill be used every 30k miles? Im new to this stuff so bear with me.

Typically when the MM system comes on it should be a drain and fill 3 times. I know you have a 05 which doesn't have this but I doubt that for $100 the dealer is draining and filling it 3 times. It would take them over an hr or more to do it in the proper sequence. The fluid alone would run at least $60 and that's with my discounted pricing.

I have been changing the transmission fluid for around 15 years at every 30k miles and haven't had one issue with any of our Honda/Acura vehicles.

you would think the dealer probably has one of those fluid sucking tools to get all of it out, instead of doing it old fashioned way..

I did mine at 52K, no codes yet. Fluid was dark and smelly. 3x drain and refill with the new Acura DW-1 Fluid. Planning to do one drain and refill at least every 30k miles.
