Trade in AT for MT

Hi All,

I purchased my brand new NBP '07 TSX w/ navi in June of the past summer. I drove it off the lot with one mile and now have around 2k miles; mostly off the highway from my constant trips from nyc to philly. To make a long story short I have nurtured the car as if it were a new born (right fuel, periodical detailing, warming the engine, etc..)

I bought the car CASH at invoice price. After driving a manual this past summer on a overseas excursion and driving friends' manual tranny cars, I wondered how much more fun I would have with my TSX if I had it in a MT.

I've been thinking about going to the same dealer I bought the car from, Paragon Acura in Queens, and seeing what and how they can accomodatate to that. After learning that NBP takes too much time to maintain I would also like to have the car in PWP If they give me a good deal I would pay the difference in cash on the spot.

What do you think of my situation? Paragon is also having a Thanksgiving sale so I want to see if that would help. Is there a better option than trading it in? Since its a trade in would there be large difference in trade in value from the dealers quote to that of Kelly Blue Book?

Any advice is appreciated! Thanks.

If you can afford it, you should go for it. I traded from an 04 AT to an 06 MT and it was the best decision I could have made.

Not worth it to trade in for a newer car even tho you already put 2k miles on your current car. You'd lose money trading for a new car doesn't matter if it's stick or auto. Your car already depreciate once you drove off the lot. expect to pay 5k or more for trading in that include taxes.

Btw, wait another year since the '09 model should be out. I'd trade in when the newer TSX is available.

Then you have to worry about the first year blues.

Wow...you really baby her...five months and only 2k miles...I've had mine for 11 months and already have 18.5k!

Anyways, like Vega said, wait for the 09's if you're adamant about getting another TSX. Or if you have the cash, why not consider the 3-series? *drool*

As CL9er said there are usually problems with first year models. Take the '04 & '05 TSX for example. I was thinking of trading in for the TSX '11 in late 2010 but who knows, they might come out with consumer hover crafts by than.

Since you put it that way I will take other cars into consideration. I feel like my current TSX deserves my faithfulness and that glancing at other cars is unethical. Am I in love?

hey, I had the same decision as you last year. Honestly, the best thing to do is just drive your car around for another few years. Mileage doesn't impact the price of the trade in later and keeping it sitting just makes you wish you drove it more when you trade in in the future (well, mileage isn't that important unless you put like 25k miles per year on it). But since your car is only recently new, you'll take a 5k hit on it. I asked my dealer the same question and they said they'll swap for approximately that price (Rallye), maybe less if you can talk it down. But in the end, you'll be short 3-5k. If you wait till the end of the year, or another year, you'll probably have the trade in for like 6k difference. Imagine, you get 1.5 years more use with only 2k difference...early trade ins hurt. Like you, I want a manual tsx. I trust the next gen will be very good. i mean, technically its not first gen TSX at all, they've had experience with the model for 4 years already.

i agree 5 months old with only 2k miles. had mine exactly one year, bought new, it has 30.6K miles. I would hold out alittle longer and see what the 09's look like. I have an 06 6spd, never would consider an automatic. already owned a black car-looked beautiful when clean but very hard to do that. have a mr/eb

Although it couldn't really hurt to wait, based on the spyshots I've seen (along with Jan's initial impressions), I wouldn't hold my breath for the new '09 Camry...err, TSX .

You should talk to dom, he couldn't handle the AT either.

Will it be possible (or likely) that the value of the current gen TSX's will drop drastically once the '09s come out?
---------
OP,
Two options:
1) Drive the AT around for another 2-3 years. It will depreciate in value, but you will get your dollars worth out of it and trade it in on an '10 or '11 of whatever car you want

2) Get the MT now and have fun with that, letting the value drop, and then get the car you "really" want.

I love the 6mt, but it looks like you're from NYC, might be better to keep the AT

I would say to sell your car or trade it in for an 05 TSX MT, then you will most likely not being paying pout of pocket, maybe even maek a little something back, then wait until the nex TSX comes out and really go all out. I switched from an 01 CL auto to an 03, best move I could make, and the car feels completely different, so much more involved.

Both of my parents are deceased, would you be interested in adopting me?

Seriously, don't trade it in if you change cars, you'll lose money. Do a private sale, knowing that it has 40,000 miles or so on the warranty. You ought to recoup at least some of your money. Then if you buy a CPO 2006 model, add in a wrap warranty, you might just break even. Or ... enjoy the car you have and love (yes you do) until you can trade up to the 2009 version, IF you like it.

Frankly, I do city driving (I-40, some rush hour, very belligerant drivers around here), and appreciate the AT which I can put in semi-manual when I want it/need it (like blowing someone's doors off if they won't let me merge in politely). Coming from a 1987 synchromesh manual, it's taken a little adjustment and learning, but I'm pretty good at changing from a large target to a small target quickly, when necessary. So unless you're the type who changes cars as often as you change underwear, enjoy what you've got for a while. You're just peeing money away if you change cars every year like a former coworker did (and earned himself about $10K in "negative equity" along the way, what a dope).

I would go for a 06 6MT instead of a 05 6MT. It could be almost a straight trade depending on mileage on the 06. There are too many upgrades on the 06 model to pass up (Bluetooth, MID, Memory seats, faster Navi, more HP, better CAT, fogs, fixed TSBs, etc). So far, only the 6MT on the 06 model can do the Comptech S/C (around 260whp/190wtq) AND the 5AT/6MT on the 06 can do Hondata.

You will not miss a thing with a 06 6MT compared to your 07 5AT except TPMS. I function just fine without TPMS on my 06 everyday.

I am in the same delima as you man. I am just thinking whether it's worth it or not to take off all my mods....haha.

At least your car is stock, so most likely will be a straight trade. You can always try to find one with very low miles.

Why don't you just test drive the MT for fun and giggles?

No, just a 19 year old kid. Trading (or selling for that matter) would be a pretty dumb move now. You've got plenty of time to get the MT next time around.

I'm thinking about doing the same thing. I have a 06 CGP AT (no navi) with 6000 miles bone stock. Just looking to trade it in for a manual in either black, carbon grey, or white. Hopefully I can make the switch for little or no money. (I keep my car immaculate, wash +wax every 1 or 2 weeks)

Let me know how that goes. As for now I am having fun with the Sport Shifting.

yeah good luck on the PWP in a 6m/t navi...

i looked across the country for 3 1/2 weeks to try and find that combo (or ABP 6m/t navi) and couldnt. i heard something like 5% of tsx are stick and only 2 in 5 of those are navi's. I came across mostly CGP's and NBP... which is what I ended up getting.

there might be a better selection now but... just in case, maybe i'll consider selling mine if youre really interested.
