Toyo Roki (Made in Japan) Oil Filter
Dose anyone have a link to where I could buy (preferably in bulk) the Toyo Roki - Made in Japan oil filter.
NOT the FILTECH Toyo Roki
I cant find them anywhere on the net.
Thanks.

Maybe you could try Excelerate if you're at the East coast or HeelToe if you're at the West coast.
What's the difference between a regular oil filter and a made in Japan oil filter?

The S2000 still uses the Toyo Roki 15400-PCX-004 filter, which is made in Japan. It is the older larger diameter size and not the skinny ones used on most of the newer Hondas. I have not tried one on the TSX yet so I don't know if there are any clearance problems but it did work on my old RSX so I suspect it should also work on the TSX. I get mine from http://www.hardtopguy.com

Anyone familiar with Hondas knows that the Japanese keep the best for themselves. This apparently applies to oil filters as well. The Toyo Roki uses steel end caps, a steel bypass valve (with very stiff spring), and a media that looks similar in thickness and quality to the STP and Bosch filters. This unit uses the same end caps and bypass valve that the US-made Honda filter uses. Something interesting, though, that's unique to the Toyo Roki filter is the unequal-length pleats (see above). I'm not sure why they are like this, but none of the other filters (including the JDM Tennex, Vic, and HAMP) that were tested had this.

I've never seen a Toyo Roki PLM style filter, accept for one's installed from the factory on Japan produced cars. AFAIK they have never been available in the US. Only replacement PLM filters I've seen are Filtech and Honeywell/Fram.

It looks like the 15400-PCX-004 can be made in the US too.

Does that include the 15400-PCX-004? The last several 15400-PCX-004 filters I've bought from hardtopguy say Toyo-Riki and made in Japan on them. I guess I will email hardtopguy and see if anything has changed. I sure hope they haven't changed or I'll be

here are the comments about the USA made Toyo Roki filter pictured above from http://www.ntpog.org/reviews/filters/old_filters.shtml for what its worth.
This filter looks identical to the Toyo Roki-made JDM filter at first glance- externally the same construction, the only indicator is the "FILTECH" stamped on the outside (a large US manufacturer of filters under various brand names). Internally it's *almost* identical to the JDM filter- steel end caps, steel bypass valve. What makes it stand out as different is the radically different filter media. The material on the Japanese filter looked like the STP or Bosch units. The US media looks much, much worse than the Fram. The media is noticeably "fuzzy" with small fibers protruding out from every angle. While the filter itself is constructed very well (like the Japanese one), the furry nature of the media makes me question how long it lasts and what it will release into the oil system. It also has the least surface area of all the Honda filters (though only a few inches less than the Canadian one).

I just spoke to Jeff from hardtopguy and he said that the filters he is currently selling now are all the the USA models. He said the Japanese models are VERY hard to come by. He said he is going to try and order some within the week and will let me know if he is able to get any.
DR_ do you have any pics of your filters?

Bummer. I'll try to remember to take a picture of mine when I get home. Please keep us in the loop if Jeff or anyone else gets more of the Toyo-Riki filters.

I can't swear to where I got these as I've bought from both hardtopguy and from the now closed s2ki.com store over the last several years. I usually order a bunch at a time so these may have mixed together from the two sources. I'm pretty bummed that I might have used a Filtech on my $$$ race motor.
