Haven't heard much of them personally no. I do swear by synthetic though. I've always used Mobil myself but a friend has recently tried AMSOIL and he was pretty happy with it. Used it for the engine and differentials in his Tacoma.

I've seen Total being advertised as made for German cars, that's about it. I really don't know how it would make a difference.

nope no experience with it.

I see no reason at all to leave Royal Purple.

i was going to switch to synthetic but when i asked my dealership about it they told me that all it is, is a waste of money in honda's/acura's. especially when your car has low miles, they said as long as you change the oil every 5000 km(3 000 miles) your car is fine. i asked my mechanic for a second opinion and he said the same thing. but i guess if you got a couple extra bucks to spend synthetic wont hurt.

My buddy has used synthetic for the entire life of his 06 Tacoma. When he had his supercharger, pulleys, and new gears put in. They took apart everything to do a, 'let's see if anything needs to be looked at closer while we're in here' kinda thing. The mechanics were very impressed at how spotless the internal components of the engine were.

After feeling the difference between Mobil sythetic and the Amsoil stuff, just with my fingers, I think I'm going to make the switch to Amsoil.

Your dealer and mechanic are full of it.

First of all, you don't need to change your oil every 3000 miles (even on dino oil). Second of all, synthetic oil keeps your engine cleaner over the long run (not to mention protects your engine against cold starts better).

BTW: Synthetic costs about $22 at walmart for 5 quarts... you ain't spending much more for syn.

I just bought some of this stuff.
it's reputation is pretty amazing.
I'm putting it in both my cars and comparing it to the
Royal Purple 5w-30. we'll see what happens.

as for this thread and the OP's request, I asked around to several
guys I know and none of them have tried it yet. I got 3 prevailing
responses for syn oil:

German Castrol 0w-30
Amsoil 0w-30
Royal Purple 5w-30

I'm not even sure the difference between the 0w and the 5w and
what kind of difference it will make at all. I'm noob to oil.
