Total daily milage...

Hi guys just wanna find out how many miles you guys use for a typical day (work, school, etc)

I am 98% getting a TSX but the important thing is that I drive a lot to and from work (150km per day)...thoughts?

Yeah, this car is perfect for a long commute. Comfy interior, plenty of power for most people, and pretty good gas mileage. I don't think you'll have any regrets. By the way, I commute about 30 miles per day (about 50km). Not nearly as much as you do, but with this car I almost wish I could commute that far.

About 50 miles total (80 km).

And if I had to drive longer (like you), I'd have gotten the TSX twice as fast (except that's not possible because I got it as fast as I could anyway). In your position, I'd want a car that's comfortable enough, and a lot of fun, and -- above all -- a car that doesn't waste any time. As I've posted elsewhere, my commutes are probably 5-10% faster because of what you can do with the car (prior car: TL-S). I've also mentioned that there was an instance a few weeks ago when I was stuck in an impossible gridlock squeeze, and was able to wiggle out and get to an alternate route, which saved me at least an hour as well as my ass. I definitely wouldn't have been able to do it with the TL.

Since the TSX is my wife's daily driver, her daily commute is only 9 miles.

Thanls for the input guys...I know it will be fun to drive this baby, but it's the service I have to worry about since I will have to service my car more often (for my 95 Civic now I have to do it roughly every 2 months)

I have an 80-mile daily roundtrip commute.

I was all set to get a WRX. Then I realized I wanted comfort and sophistication on the loooong drive instead of raw power and an econo box interior.

As for reliability, you can't do better than a brand new Japan-built Honda product. Change the oil on time and you're set.

Well I know it's only every 8000km in Canada, but don't you guys wanna preserve the milage as much as possible? Again maybe it's just me?

service interval (oil changes) is 8000 km on the "severe duty" schedule and 16000 km on the "normal duty" schedule. You may choose to service your car as you see fit, though, so if you use a synthetic oil, you can probably safely go 12000 km between changes, even on a "severe duty" schedule.

Ditto. I'm about 3 miles from work, so it took me forever to pass the break-in, and I hit 1000 miles just this weekend. I figure I'm averaging just about 18 mi/day so far.. on pace for under 7k/year. Of course it'll take just a few weekend road trips to raise those numbers a bit.

I'm only about a mile from work at the most. Shit...maybe I should walk...
But what would I do on my lunch hour? Eating takes about 20 minutes so I usually rip around my hilly and twisty community for a half hour on most days. Unfortunately, my gas mileage is shit cause I'm always revving high and stopping a few intersections later. My highway time is pretty rare. I think I've got V6 gas bills!

I drive 60 miles roundtrip everyday, on county roads with no traffic.

First things first: Hey, Odessa! We missed you! Been away, I imagine?
(You see, you can't just disappear and think we won't notice!)

About that one-mile commute: I've always heard that taking a car on a lot of very short rides is bad for it.

Is this true?

Well on one of those breaking in threads i read that driving only about 15 mins early on is a good thing. As for doing it later on over and over... i never thought it really mattered. Only that you shouldn't leave the car not used for a long time.

There goes my automotive bliss

Someone please write something good and believable about how I'm in no danger of harming my engine long term, and how populary to conrtrary belief, this actually adds 30HP to the engine in a space of 5 years. While yer at it, explain that idle time is more harmful and I've nothing to worry about.

Going a mile at a time probably isn't ideal for the engine (based on what I've read), but as long as you warm up the car by the time you get there (either take that mile really slowly or take a fun detour) it shouldn't be a huge problem, especially on a Honda motor.

Enjoy the car and don't worry about it! I would suggest walking when it's sunny but that's not saying a lot considering where we live.

Edit: Just read your post and realised I wasn't thinking straight. Of course cars love to be turned on and off at short intervals, why do you think the ignition is so ergonically placed? It's easier to reach than the radio! I've heard of some people who insist on shutting their cars off at every red light even! Good times! It's probably even going to make the engine perform better over the long term because of all the parts you're going to have to replace on it! (kidding!)

If I was that close to work I would definately walk or take my bike. As for lunch...bike again...or go home for lunch.

I have heard the same thing about less than 15 minutes per drive will do damamge. Not sure if its true or an old wives tale.

We should collect those old wives tales.

1. Bad for car to do short drives

2. Always warm up the engine on cold days

3. If you get a **** *** while you're driving, it adds to the horsepower

What else?

This one is actually true. But it only works if it's not performed by an old wife!!
