Tiny rock chips - WTF!

Hey guys,

So, I've recently noticed what appears to be a lot of tiny (size of a pin point) spots all over my hood. I have about half of my car 3M clear bra'd, but I'm getting all of these weird marks at the top of the hood. I'm not sure whre they're coming from, and I try to follow at a good distance from other cars/trucks. Furthermore, my car spends the majority of it's time in the garage, and only has 26k miles (07 TSX CGP). Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone else has been experiencing the same issues?

I totally agree-lousy paint that chips easy. My car is covered. I was in the far left lane on a 4 lane highway and my car got hit my a rock thrown from a truck tire that was in the far right lane. Unavoidable no matter how careful you are.

Don't blame Honda completely. The tree huggers, global warming yahoos (and the Feds) are much more to blame for the crappy paint that we're stuck with from what's on your car to the stuff that passes for house paint now.

Yeah but ... our cars are painted in Japan where the US fed gov has no control. Still very easy to hate the tree huggers though.

Well, regardless, it still looks like complete shit! Does anyone know what it costs (rough estimate) to get the hood repainted on an 07 TSX?

Even if you get it repainted, it'll chip like before. Body shops will be using the same eco friendly paint that Honda did. What you need is a full hood clear bra, not just the front half. That would work, but you'd still need to repaint it to have it look nice
Repainting the hood should run you about 400 at a decent shop.

I have a lot of chips near the sunroof so I would need a complete covering on my car. With all the chips my car has I have been lucky my windshield has held up. (knock on wood)I am also happy I still have avoided door dings from other cars. I am on my third touch up paint pen. I still get lots of compliments on how nice my car looks after 91,000+miles. It is also garage kept, washed and waxed on a regular basis.

Dealership by me charges $250 for a nose mask clear bra. I think that's just front bumper, part of the front fenders and the front part of the hood. Less than half of it though. I think that's the price for it installed. I wish I had asked them to do it when I bought the car. I'm at 27k and don't have any real rock chips per se, but there's a few tiny areas where the finish is marred. I only notice it when I'm waxing it (which I was supposed to do today!!! Stupid job, calling me in on my day off!!!)

And yes, the paint sucks, but I've had much worse. The paint on my POS Neon was much, much worse. When I bought the car it was less than 2 years old and the clear coat was already gone on the hood. At 5 years old it had almost no paint on the hood or roof and the bumpers where faded almost white, which looked pretty bad on a black car.

Hey just throwing this out there. Would a carbon fiber hood chip? Bought my car used and looks like hood may have been repainted before, i also added some bad chips from fast highway driving so I was thinking of replacing it all together to avoid this problem
